Default Main course or after dinner dessert

Stopped at the adult beverage store yesterday to grab some blood thinner meds, (beer) and wife seen this. At 13 bucks a bottle, I almost passed, but then I thought about the good folks here who would surely appreciate it.

Have yet to try it, perhaps this evening. Haven't been on much lately. Seems like I have to make up for lack of production from the Winter months. Got some jerky to make up here right quick for our BWCA trip. We'll see if I can't get a few obligatory pics of that in

I got a buddy that picked up a bottle of this for me and it should be in transit. I think he got it for $8.99, but that was in Philadelphia. We get Rounge here in MI, but I've never see this beer on the shelves.

Looking forward to it. Enjoy!

The reviews on the beer have been pretty poor. But some people have said they enjoyed it. Originally I think it was supposed to be a porter, but now it's an "ale". In any event, I'd say it is most similar to a sweetened smoked porter, or a sweetened rauchbier.

Here's what a few internet sites suggest: Rauchbier is supposed to be served with full-flavored foods, such as smoked ham, smoked pork, smoked salmon, smoked sausages, and smoked cheeses(smoked provolone or smoked gouda are great!) It also pairs well with (unsmoked) lamb chops, pork ribs, and pork roast.

Personally, the thought of drinking smoked beer with smoked food seems like smoke over-kill to me. If you're not going to have it with eggs and toast for breakfast, I might try it with unsmoked lamb or pork chops (as I couldn't bring myself to cook pork ribs or a pork roast without smoke). Either that or have it with some seriously stinky cheeses after dinner, which I think would be my first choice.

Interesting.
Leave it to Rogue to make such an odd sounding beer.
I like a lot of their stuff and their chipotle ale is pretty damned tasty and great for cooking but don't know how i would feel about drinking a bacon maple doughnut beer...
Think I would be embarrassed carrying a pink bottle to the counter.

Can't wait to hear what you think of it.
