Ok, this is a shot in the dark. I am one who loves to make my own chit. Even if I can buy it cheaper, I still, if I can, prefer to make it myself, no matter what it is.

If you found yourself a decent motor, one that has a fair amount of torque, you could wire it to one of the foot pedals that control a sewing machine. If you have ever sewn, than you know what I am referring to. It allows you to speed up or slow down the motor. In theory this sounds good. If your not familiar with what I am talking about, let me know and I'll post one for you to look at.

      Fabrication

I'm with ya, I'm the same way.

Most of my stuff is homebuilt,

I think this maybe project #28, I have to add it to the list.

At $250. and not available i may be looking at doing something. The fdick motor looks like a nice setup as well..

This is what I'm talkin about. Hooking this up to a motor.

And, Mulepackin just posted this on New Smokes thread about a rotisserie motor. http://www.electricmotorwarehouse.co...erie_motor.htm

A good rotisserie motor with a foot pedal would give you some good control on the speed your sausage comes out of the tube. Something like a 6 rpm motor. Heck, you could just use the rotisserie motor by itself really with a on/off switch nearby.

I've been wracking my brain how to effectively set my existing motor up to my stuffer. It would sure be nice. The problem would be a solid enough, tall enough platform for the height of my stuffer and weight of the motor. I haven't found a Lovejoy coupler half that connects to a square shaft, but I'm sure a round one could be made square to work. I think an entire set-up that the stuffer could be bolted to with the motor mount made intergral would be the way to go. The motor is already wired with a reversing switch and foot pedal.

            Foot switches

I like foot switches, i have them on my meat grinder, drill press etc.

Before I had this stuffer I used my Hobart clone mixer/grinder with a foot switch for stuffing. It worked OK, I just was not happy with the density of the product so I figured I would try this stuffer.

I will take a look at the shaft, I think a 5/8 plug socket may work as a coupler.

            Thanks,

First off, that motor and control is SWEET. Very nice.

What size is that square stub on your stuffer?
(the wheels in my head are turning)

Without measuring it, I would say right close to 3/4" (or some metric conversion, since it is a German made stuffer). Thanks for the props on the machine. Like you guys, I get as much satisfaction out of building my equipment as I do using it. Here are a few more pics of the stub shafts, and the gears out of the stuffer when I refurbed it. Looks a lot like Dana rearend parts.

                  Shaft size

The shaft size on my stuffer is 1/2 inch 8 point. A plug socket from snap on etc is available to take it from 1/2 inch 8 point to 1/2 inch square. i think I may even have a 3/8 drive socket.

I'll have to stop at drisliker and see what I can dig up.

Depending on how you plan to connect the shaft to the motor, you might want to keep it at 8 sided. If you were to use a Lovejoy coupler, it would work better at 8 sided, as it is much closer to round. I would measure across the long points and get a coupler half that matched that dimension. They are keyed so it would lock down well.

What about just buying one end of a lovejoy coupler and have appropriate sized socket welded to it. nickelmore, an 8-pt, and mule, if a yours does measure at 3/4" a junk socket from a 3/4" drive

I love cobbling things together, especially when they work

I think the weston is a 1/8 hp 90 watt motor. It has a rheostat for the speed adjustment. also here is a couple that seemed better priced, incase you change your mind.

At my shop, which is primarily used as a hobby shop and a place to tinker, we call it Hillbilly Engineering (2 of of the 3 of us that use the space hale from the south)

This place has the phone disconnected, looks like a store front and probably does not have any inventory. Still waiting for a response to an email.

Very nice guy called me back from this place said they probably would not see them until March, said he has received a bunch of calls and would c`all me when they came in to see if I still needed one.

I need to check out the rest of his stuff the next time I need some stuff.

Like I said this is project #27 or 28 so I just need to be in the thinkin/collecting mode.

I haven't tried it and who knows might not work but I was thinking of stealing the drive motor from my grill rotisery thingy if I can remember where it's got too. I think it has the same type fitting on the end.

I Own a Cabelas 20# stuffer and got the motor at the same time. Both were in the "Bargain Cave" at the Cabelas in Rogers Minnesota.

THe motor works great, BUT...If you want to use it for snack sticks, you have to add extra water to your mix or the motor is overworked.

It should come with a foot switch, but if you need one got Harbor Freight http://www.harborfreight.com/momenta...tch-96619.html

I use this switch with my grinder, so I can use both hands.
