  • Southern sweet tea.

    Ingredients:
3 Family sized tea bags Luzianne Tea Bags
a pinch baking soda (about 1/4 teaspoon) you can omit if ya want.
1 to 2 cups of sugar I like two

    Directions:
Here is my never fail sweet tea...
    Everyone (even yankees) loves it.

Bring 3-4 cups of water to a boil. Add a pinch of baking soda to the water and add 3 family sized tea bags. Remove from heat and cover. Allow to sit for at least 10-15 minutes. Pour into gallon pitcher and add sugar. Then fill with cold water. Refrigerate.

*the soda takes out the bitterness and darkens the tea....this small amount doesnt change the taste. a pinch of salt can be used instead to ward off bitterness. But, omit either and do not squeeze the tea bags.

I just copied most of this from grits. but pretty much what I made for years at the fire station. make it by the 5 gallon Igloo. i must admit now that I am older I have cut the sugar by half. and just drink out of the pan

lemon or lime. I don't care as long as one is there.

WOW that's strong... I'm a Luzianne tea fan too... I use 4 bags and 1 heaping cup of sugar in a 2 gallon pitcher.. Best if it sets overnight..

I think each family tea bag is good for one quart of water..

Hey now, I resemble that statement

Is that right Kyote? 3 Family size teabags and only 3-4 Cups water?
The wife and I LOVE Luzianne tea, the best.....

Ahhhh sweet tea. A simple yet refreshing idea (and a great post). I love me some southern style sweet tea.

The only thing you guys forgot to mention is that it is best served over ice by a southern belle (wearing Daisy Dukes, of course) and that is just as sweet as the tea itself.

Well, that's how I prefer it anyway.

D' s right cept it is a simple syrup (not sugar).

The sugar will stay dissoved in the liquid and not drop out. Thats how ya get it super sweet.

For adding to drinks bring water to a low boil add 1 to 1 sugar/water, stir reduce heat, add flavoring, steep, and cool.

I use it mixed with soda water, mashed fresh mint & limes and good rum. Mojito!

God i still love sweet tea, but the doctors want me to cut back on the finer things in life, like sugar and caffine so here is what we do

                    damn yankee sweetened tea

                    ingredients
2 - luzianne family sized decaf tea bags
                    1 1/2 cups splenda

put 4 cups of water into a 4 cup pyrex measuring cup
put tea bags in the water
microwave on high about 'bout 8 mins or so
                    let stand 'til it cools
pour into a gallon pitcher add additional water to make one gallon
                    add splenda and stir
                    serve over ice

I don't add any sugar, not because I can't have sugar it's just the way I prefer it. I think I'll try the zest thing.
