  • Whole butt tenderloin

Hi yall, Let me start by saying that I like beef better than any other meat, but it seems that I do more pork and chicken than anything else. So today at the local grocery store I decided to change that until I saw some of the prices. They had Whole butt tenderloin black angus for 17.99 a pound. I did not buy one for two reasons

    1. That's to much money.
    2. I have no experience with this cut.

So if anybody has any info and experience with this cut would you share thanks

Pretty high considering it's just choice and not prime.

The tenderloin or filet, is made up of two parts. The butt filet or Châteaubriand and the short filet or Filet Mignon. They are generally separated, but not always. I think what you were looking at if the whole thing. All excellent eating, very tender. The price sounds a bit high to me but it really depends on the meat grade. If it was Prime° or Prime+ it might be worth that.

Agreed... pricy. But if you have an occasion, or a hankerin'... no replacement. Unless ya bag a nice elk/whitetail... That comes close. And in some instances..equals.

Seems a bit high, compared to my area. I have bought them whole the past year or so, from I think $6.99 lb. (cryovaced and skinny) to I think $14.99 lb. for larger ones. Cut steaks go for aboot $10.99 on sale to $15.99 typically. I typically buy them in cut steak form for $12.99 lb. from a local butcher/source and they are not Prime graded, butt are Awesome!

To me, when I get in the mood, nothing else will do, even if I just buy 1 for meself

If you like beef, and have never had 1, ya gotta do it, at least once.

I realize they are spendy! Butt, nothing beef wise compares IMO. I have not had Kobe, so I cant comment on it, butt if you get a chance, treat yourself to a tenderloin steak. IMO, just a single Tenderloin steak is worth its own thread

I can get a single TL steak for aboot $5-7 and cook it for meself, and make spaghetti for the family. Sounds bad, butt they are happy and I am happy(er)

Hope you get to try one

Then he won't talk to us for a week! .........
It still depends on the grade of the meat. I can usually buy short filet's for $10-12/lb choice or prime -. Prime ° or + is going to be more.
Ya do get what ya pay for. If it's a special occasion go for it! Tuesdays and Thursdays are special!

Just buy some TL steaks for a special dinner IMO, if you have a good place to get them.... You don't need the whole TL.... Maybe the butcher can cut you some steaks?..... Most butchers I talk with are really cool, and more than happy to help oot if they can.... That said, a WHOLE Tenderloin has a pretty good WOW factor as far as presentation goes

Damn, getting hungry for some now...

That's not enough weight per pound and to much money per pound to spend a few nights on the couch. Ask Fish!
