Good luck. Tri tip is worth watching for. I couldn't get them for the longest time. Then Costco had them whole and in steaks for 6.99. Typical for beef around here, and they are trimmed of all fat. Not bad, really. At least got to try them.

Then a major chain store started selling whole ones a couple times of year for 4.99. Yep, I stock up. I'll cut my own steaks if that's what I'm in the mood for. They're trimmed on the top side, but the bottoms have still got a thick layer of fat. Don't like paying for fat and/or bone, but still a good deal.

Hope it works out for you. Delicious piece of beef.

          Thank you all.

I am not afraid of them being not trimmed. I really don't mind a bit of a fat cap, just don't like paying for huge amounts of fat......

I'll let you all know how it ends up coming too....

When I was working near Sandford north of Orlando last spring I was getting prime tri tips from this place that were to die for. Thought I was eating Waygu/Kobe. For $8.99/lb Not sure where you are at in Central FL.

Tri-tip? Hell, there is no such thing as that in these parts. I asked the meat managers at the local BJ's and Costco, and they looked at me like I was from another planet. If they did exist, they are made from unobtanium.

I guess I'll have to take a ride oot west to visit Scott...

im a retired butcher. next time ask for a sirloin tip or ball tip and see if they know what you are asking for.
i think the balltip would be the cheaper of the two.

Will do... I asked him the other day and he could not give me a price because he could not figure out what I was asking for. I am losing faith in this butcher...
