  • Wagyu Brisket

Anyone bought and smoked one of these briskets before? They cost about $15 a lb as I remember. What were your results? Are they better than buying at Sam's, Costco, etc.?

gooose53: I've never heard of it, but I found a site that sells them. I can't believe that this is worth the money.

Captian and Smoke cooked one at the Mt. Morris comp, along with an Angus. Turned in the Angus. The W just did not have the flavor we felt. Not bad, mind ya- we really agonized between us over picking the Angus to turn in- but the Angus got us a 6th outta 27

True statement. I brought the Wagyu (got 4 for $4.23/lb delivered frozen. I have a friend!). The Wagyu just didnt have the beef flavor compared to the Angus (we did walk in brisket).

Did another at home about 10 days ago. That one was a little better, more flavor and more moist, but I really like the Angus we turned in. Have two more Wagyus. When they're gone, gonna start using Angus at home.

              Some basic info about Wagyu

"In the United States, Japanese wagyū cattle were bred with Angus cattle to create a crossbred animal that would be more able to survive the U.S. climate and ranching methods. The meat of this crossbreed was more marketable to the American buyer. To the American buyer, the meat of the Wagyū cow was "too white." The meat of the crossbreed provided the balance of marbling and red meat desired by American buyers. This crossbreed has been named American Style Kobe Beef and was originally produced for export to Japan but is now available world-wide."

That's the same place I was looking at. The Angus Prime was about $10 a lb. I might try that one for my next comp. Or maybe order one to do at home.
