Looks a lot like an Akorn.

Like the Akron its a Kamado cooker but instead of steel its ceramic like the Green Egg at half the price so just trying to figure out where it comes up short.

If your interested in something like this, give the akorn a look. Half the price. I've had mine for a short time and love it. Very efficient.

Did you have to modify it to maintain low and slow temps?

My other concern was that steel will eventually rust whereas ceramic won't.

That's a wicked price! In the past, what I read was that the knockoffs do not retain the heat nearly as well (thinner ceramics?) as the original (Green Egg) Kamado. One knockoff unit I saw at Lowes or HD this spring was certainly not built as well - very flimsy. Things to consider, let us know.

I'm guessing mine is at least 4 years old. I bought used and no signs of wear. With about a chimney of lump it ran at 230 for 6 hours. I did have trouble starting out getting that low. RowdyRay has one and probably knows more about it than me. I'm still learning

I've been interested in buying a ceramic type smoker/grill like a GE, but have been put off by the price. I'd like to hear more about how well this smoker works.

I don't see why anyone would get an egg type smoker. I think an ugly drum smoker is way better & MUCH cheaper. I love my UDS & would not trade it for any kind of egg style smoker. JMHO. I have a weber kettle & a MES and there is not much that I can't do with those tools.

I wouldn't buy an egg or this one just because of price, bit I would buy another akorn. These egg smokers are efficient as hell. They retain heat so well, unlike an UDS or Weber. I love mine and glad I didn't get a weber. I'm even thinking of trying some tandoori style cooking on mine.

They nice & so is the BGE...I just won't splurge for that $$$...My drum is efficient & does what I need at a very low cost. Once a year I roll it out of the garage kept...scrub the outside with scotch brite & Dawn...hose that & rattle can paint on the outside. Them stories of hi-temp paint don't float with me. Bout 2 or 3 times a year I rinse the inside out with the hose & Rock with it...There is no corrosion problems & i'm on saltwater...

I wish I could say that about my old Ford cargo van. I bought it new in 91 right here in St. Pete, lived on the water for five years in the early 90's, and now I just replaced the floor pans and chasing rust bumper to bumper.
