  • Pitmaker Safe - Should I?

This forum rocks and it's members are the best. I was recently introduced to a Pitmaker Safe. Love the design and ease of use. Hoping I can personalize it by having it painted with the Red Bull logo on each side with "Ducati" on the back with some additional logos.

Does anyone have any first hand experience using a Pitmaker Safe or Vault? The smoker will be for good backyard eating with family and friends.

Hopefully I can take a long break from buying any additional grills/smokers and learn to love what I have which is a Weber E670 gas grill, Komodo Kamado ceramic grill, and soon the be delivered Yoder YS1500 pellet grill.

I'm not sure why my girlfriend thinks adding another grill to the backyard is such a bad idea? :)

Looked it up and it looks like a Great smoker... as for your Girlfriend or in my case my Wife, they never understand unless they have a passion for the gig... I have 2 small smokers, 3 kettles, and 2 gas grills and my wife is always giving me grief, but we sure eat well...
God, Family and Friends is what it's all about. Great food just brings them all together... First John1:9...

If your handle is any indication, get the thing. It can't be any wackier than riding a duc. I'd paint it red and maybe have some multistrada type side bags made out of metal. That would be cool.

I say get it... right tool for the right job. This is the USA where a guy can get into some serious trouble by having too many wives, but not for having too many grills or smokers!

I've always responded to the wife when she ask if I really need another smoker with why do you need so many purses? Cause they each have its purpose. Shuts her up pretty quick considering she has a closet full of them

I have used an old design of their vault several times. They redesigned the heat/water pan and a few other things to make it much better. If I had the money I would get one. They are very fuel efficient and easy to run. Besides if you have any questions the guys are very willing to help you out. George and the rest are a class act!!!

I few things to look at when running your smoker......

It is designed to use water in the bottom. If you run out of water you can create a very good chance of a flash fire when you open the door to look at your food.... Believe me it is a bit of a surprise when it happens when the water pans dry out you will get a temp spike...

You can create a dry chamber by adding sand or heat safe stones in the water pan and cover with foil to keep it clean from drippings. This will also allow for a bit more stable temp controls.

Pitmaker makes a very good quality product and I would recommend them to anyone interested in their product.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Bob, never thought about having metal side bags made. Lol. Jeramy, thanks for telling me to watch out for the empty water pan and how to keep it somewhat clean.
Maybe I will buy it for my girlfriend along with a few purses and shoes. HAHA.

They look like some very well made smokers. And you can get them custom painted in Ducati red too (I'd skip the saddle bags tho ). If you want it, jump on it! Thats why we all work so hard!

I went to the site and watched the video, pretty impressive temp recovery after he left the door opened for a HUGE AMOUNT OF TIME ! I was saying to myself, "shut the door, shut the door!", but it recovered quickly.

The only issue I have with the video is how the temp went up quickly, but did the temp flatten out at 250, or did the smoker need adjustments ? Looked like they had a ton of charcoal in there burning hot. Not saying they did the demonstration with, "more than you might use" hot coals, but my offset smoker will recover very quickly after a baste, when I add some charcoal to the firebox about 20 minutes before basting.

Looks like a very well made smoker, I'm really looking forward to seeing how well it performs over its lifetime.
