  • WANTED: Stick Burning Offset Smoker

    Hi guys,
I bought a Brinkmann Offset Smoker in 2010. It finally rusted out and I am looking for a replacement. I see that Brinkmann went bankrupt since then.

Does anyone have a similar one for sale? (see pic of mine when it was new)
Or if you have a larger or different style smoker for the same price range, I'd consider it.
I would want it to be rust free and in good condition.

Or does anyone have a similar style new model they'd recommend to replace my old Brinkmann?
    Thanks!

I think brinkman was a clone or knocj off of an Oklahoma Joe.

I would serch craigs list and look for an older used unit. I did catch a OKJ Highland on sale for like $100.00 but that was a fluke.

Still looking for an older longhorn myself.

HaHa! Yeah, I'd love that!! It may be a little large for what I want though.

Thanks for the suggestions though guys. I appreciate it.
Yeah, when I was using that smoker before it rusted out, I got pretty good at it.
Pulled pork and brisket were my favorites that I kind of perfected. I also did smoked duck, chicken, turkey, Cornish game hens, Atomic Buffalo Turds, candied bacon, etc...

UPDATE: I visited several local hardware stores today to see if any of them had an offset smoker that I could buy today. NONE of them had one in stock. Several said I could visit their websites and ship it to my house. One of them had a Charbroil 1280 sq in, mfg # 14201571 for $229 that I could have them order and ship to the store for $229. I think I paid $150 for my Brinkmann in 2010 but I'm not sure. I was hoping to spend under $200 but $229 might be doable.... I'll research some more online and see what my options are.
        We'll see....

Do you have Academy Sports out there?

Heck in the KC area i figure you can find a deal in Craigs list or Facebook market place.

The older ones had thicker steel and made in usa. Now they are thin and made in China

            Thanks for the ideas guys.
Yeah, I thought about checking out Craigslist. I didn't know if there would be any ones in good shape or not. I'll check it out tonight & see what's available.

I think we have an academy sports here. Do they have a lot of offset smokers?

What models of offset smoker do you guys recommend?

I am leaning towards the Char-Broil 1280 square inch model that is $229.99.
            It's MFG # 14201571,
            UPC # 099143015712,

            Thoughts??? Thanks!

My first 5 or 10 smokers were from craigslist. Fix them up and resale them if the relationship don't work out.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually found an Oklahoma Joe Longhorn smoker on Craigslist a couple days ago. The guy bought it in 2009. The images he had on Craigslist looked good. They didn't show the interior of the smoker though. I asked him to send pics of the fire box and cooking chamber. They were really rusted. The ash pan was actually rusted away almost entirely. You could see through the bottom of the firebox ash pan and see the ground under it. :)

I actually decided on one. I ordered one from the Ace Hardware store. It will arrive in the store in 2 days (Friday).
It's the Char-Broil 1280 sqare inch Offset Smoker that I was previously considering.
                It's MPN: 14201571,
                UPC: 099143015712

I'm excited to get it. It isn't the most expensive smoker, but looks near identical to the Brinkmann that I had a few years ago. I really liked that one.
This time I'm going to get a cover for it so it doesn't rust out in a couple years like the previous one.

I found a local woodyard place and am going to pick up some cherry, pecan and oak logs tomorrow.

I'm trying to decide which meat will be it's "First Smoke". I'm thinking maybe brisket. We'll see...

I still would be on the lookour for a old Oklahoma Joe Highland or longhorn. Thicker steel and the old ones were made in USA. Since they were mad not far from you I bet there is a bunch of used ones out there.
