  • I'm Going Absolutely Bananas - A must try idea

I love ice cream. I even set up a monthly event at work that I host called Sundae Wednesday where I start us out with a few gallons of ice cream, some homemade hot fudge and a salted caramel or bourbon butterscotch and then everyone that wants to join in can bring a topping. It is amazing how well people have latched onto this...it truly is one of the most attended break-time events at our facility.

At one of the events, one of the engineers brought a machine called "YO-NANAS"...and he fed it frozen bananas that turned out a frozen banana ice cream. It was really pretty darned good! So I got to thinking that my Ninja blender could easily do the same thing. I think it is even better, as the high speed whips it into a light and airy soft serve that is really astounding. Here...Check this out.

    Use some ripe bananas.

Peel them and put them into a zip lock bag

Freeze them and bust them into little chunks

    Into the Blender they go

Pulse the blender and it kocks them into smaller chunks

At this point I added about 1/4 cup of skim milk to get it spinning in the blender. Keep going and you can see how the banana is turning into a creamy soft serve ice cream.

    It's done, and delicious!

I added a bunch of cinnamon and some vanilla this time.

This shows how creamy and delicious the banana ice cream is. It is really a wonderful trick.

If you have kids, this would be a must try idea.

The additions really are pretty endless. Next time I might try a bit of sweetended condensed milk and cinnamon...or....

But the base stuff is way healthier than just fat laden ice cream. I put it in some small cups and refreeze and then take with my lunch. A delicious and healthy snack or after lunch treat.

I use frozen berries, OJ, and yogurt all the time to make smoothies. Never thought of doing the ice milk. Sometimes we just need another set of eyes to see a great idea.

G, I love smoothies...and make a lot of different variations. Here is one of my favorites in this post.

Smoothies and "ice cream" are not quite the same. I remove dairy from my diet every chance I get. Try almond milk next time. With the banana ice cream as well as the smoothies. You'll not notice the difference and may even come to prefer it if you buy the right brand, or if you make it yourself.

Drop the OJ, increase the berries, change out the yogurt with almond milk, and add some kale in those frozen berry smoothies. You'll never taste the kale and the benefits are well worth your while.

I freeze bananas all the time... kids love then for smoothies and such. Thanks for the idea...

On a side note... dont ever toss bad fruit... it really is not bad.. cut off the effected area toss into a zip lock baggie in the freezer... kids use this frozen bad fruit all the time for smoothies... just a way to get the budget to stretch a bit further...

                          Thanks Alex!

Once a Month For Sundae Wednesday, I have full disclosure in the form of a sign up sheet...that way everyone can see what everyone else is bringing so we don't end up with 25 tubs of strawberries and nothing else. Before break, people sneak over to the kitchen and throw in a batch of brownies so they are hot for break time. There are crushed cookies, candies, nuts, fruit, whipped toppings, root beer, pretzels, etc,...one lady even brought in a tray of BACON (and damn was that good with my homemade fudge drizzled on it with the ice cream!!). The variety of toppings are amazing!! Several people brought in different flavors of Ice cream...Usually there is a lot of commotion at our events and lots of talking. Not at Sundae Wednesday...there is a hush that falls over the break room as everyone is just snarfing on a sundae of their own making. I may be out $20 bucks for ice cream and assorted hot fudge and butterscotch supplies, but it is worth every penny in the team building good will that it buys. Everyone just loves it.

I'll be trying this pretty soon. Grand kids are so spoiled they won't eat any ice cream unless its chocolate mudslide (Tillamook) or maybe vanilla. I'll be eating banana all by myself which is fine with me.
