  • Tater Tot Casserole

Never thought about posting it since it is pretty mundane. Never considered posting any pictures of it since looks kind of scary. But given how fast the kids devour it, I figured I'd throw it out there.

Brown a pound (or so) of ground beef.
Mix in a can (or two) of cream of mushroom soup.
Line the bottom of a baking pan with tater tots.
Pour the beef/mushroom soup mixture over the tater tots.
Bake in a 350° oven for 30 minutes (or so) until the tater tots are done to your liking.

My kids LOVE this stuff. If I talk about adding anything extra like shredded cheese on top or deviating from the recipe, they throw a fit.

Simple, fast, easy, and the kids love it.

Yep. Oreida also makes a tater tot with onions. Add some crushed red pepper or sauté some jalapenos or top it with shredded pepper jack. You can also use your favorite sausage instead of the ground beef.

          Made it a couple times.

You've never made tater tot hot dish? It's hotdish here btw. A casserole is what you put the hot dish in.

Since DDave didn't take any pics, I'll post some. I took these to show some folks on another forum that never heard of it either.

The other reason I've never posted it . . . I figured EVERYONE already knew what it was.

Who knew it was such a well kept secret.

You wouldn't believe how many people have never heard of it.

Too bad the kids won't let you vary it up. There's no set rules for this dish. Don't think any two have ever been the same around here. Whatever you have on hand or in the mood for today.

Story of my cooking life, Ray.

If I make something once that the kids or Mrs. DDave like, I am forbidden from making any changes.

That coupled the fact that the rest of the family can't seem to like the same seasonings or vegetables in the same state -- one likes cooked carrots the other likes raw carrots, one likes corn the other doesn't one likes pepper the other doesn't . . . And Mrs. DDave's favorite spice is BLAND.

Makes me want to yell "That's what's for dinner and this ain't no %^%$ restaurant" from time to time.
