  • Steak and Sweet potato chili.

Cooking up some slow cooker chili. Found inspiration in an online thread elsewhere(myfitnesspal.com), and a recent "COWBOY" chili recipe from our forums. The original recipe called for ground beef but I went with round steak.

2 lbs round steak cubed into 1" pieces
1 can black beans (no salt)
    1 can rotel™
    1 large onion
1 huge sweet potato cut into 1" chunks
***had some gaujillo hoss soss so i added that as well***
    https://www.hosssoss.com/products/guajillo-hoss-soss
    Spices....
salt, chili powder, red chili flakes, cumin, paprika, mexican oregano, CBP, and garlic powder. (no idea of how much, just to my tastes)
a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce.

Throw it all in the crock-pot on low until done. 7-8 hours

Notes. Didn't have a jalapeno, so went with hot pepper flakes. Probably should have browned the meat before, but I did not. I've never had this kind of chili before, but it was highly recommended from the other thread I mentioned. They all swear by ground beef, but I am hoping steak makes it better

have a begin pic, I'll post finished after 8 hours or so.

Never thought of sweet potatoes. Did they cook down and add to the texture or did they keep their shape.
Looks good to me. Must be chili out there too. Brrrrrr

I thought they'd get mushy , but they held their shape, maybe because little stirring in the crock-pot, because they are nice and soft. Beef came out tender, and a good contrast to the potato.

This a keeper. Very good and the sweet contrast is nice to the low heat, but rich spiciness chili. I also love the color of this one. Turned out good. Remember we eat with our eyes as well.

Great looking bowl, not sure how the sweet potatoes held up through the cook.

I plan ahead, that way I don't do anything right now.
