Truffles. Seductive, savory, better than sex even. Those are some of the ways I would describe their flavor.
Of all the foods on the planet truffles are the ONLY one to contain all 3 umami factors naturally. Glutamate, Guanylate and Inosinate.
Now it should be stated that when it comes to things like truffle oil they generally contain something called truffle essence or truffle flavor.
I have heard some people put down truffle oils because of this but in reality they simply do not know any better because you can not get truffle oil that is simply truffles and oil unless you live in Italy, have a steady supply and use it within a week. So that being said and without getting into a long explanation about the reasons why I will just get on with my review.
For Christmas one of my Sisters ordered me a few small bottles of truffle oil. Having never tried it before I was really excited. When I cracked the bottle the smell was very potent but had the smell of savory seduction and the taste was simply amazing. People ask what it smells or tastes like but there is nothing that it can be compared to.
The brand I had was Roland Black Truffle Oil.

After using it on many dishes and falling head over heels in love I ordered some truffle salt which turned out to be just as good!!!
I can't explain how much I love this stuff.

As I was running low on my oil I decided to order more from Amazon.
The bottles I received as gifts were only available in 1.8 and 3.4oz bottles so I decided to order another bran (highly rated) that was 8.6oz.

Now instead of bashing this other brand too bad I will simply say that my $26 bottle of olive oil is soon to become nothing more than worm food as I am going to have to pour it into the compost pile.
The smell wasn't bad but the flavor didn't even come close to the bold, natural and amazing taste of Roland truffle oil.
I actually found out that some Shoprites around my area carry it but not ones close so I am seeing about getting our local store to carry it so I have a steady supply.
I love BBQ, I mean I am a F-ing maniac about some good Q but I can honestly say that some angel hair pasta tossed with truffle oil, parmesan and some truffle salt is up there with any of the best foods I have ever tried.
Though the price can seem a bit outrageous considering the amount you get a little goes a long way so I implore those of you who may be curious to pull the trigger and give it a try.
