  • Top Tip for getting fruit wood ! - You need to read this :-) (really you do)

Okay so it's spring, and what happens in spring ?

    Fruit trees get pruned !
Yep you have to prune when the sap is running. I saved a bunch of plum and apple from prunings yesterday.

So get onto your local garden services and ask if any of them have any fruit wood prunings you can take off their hands. Saves then burning them and you get free wood !
I'll say that again for cheryl: Free Wood !

Start asking round folks - cherry, apple, plum, pear - all get pruned this time of year.

This is how I get the bulk of my wood. They are often smaller branches but they work and they are free. I fine many orchards are using chippers these days too so bags of chips can be had for your smokes just for the asking.
    Smokers:

Smoke preference:Combination of Charcoal, Hickory, Apple, Cherry & Pecan wood.

That's a great idea. I play golf at a course that used to be an apple orchard, think I'll ask aboot it. Thanks for the awesome tip Alex. I haven't had to pay for wood yet.

I keep telling Derek to make the rounds of local orchards near him for trimmings, especially after the heavy limb snapping snowstorm they got in his area 5-6 weeks ago. He lives smack dab in the middle of the cherry growing capital of the Midwest. Right where they have the National Cherry Festival every year. Also tons of apple orchards around too.

I picked up some apple and cherry that way last year.
            Gonna make the rounds again.
