  • Yoder YS640 Insulated Cover?

I have a YS640 and thinking of purchasing a thermal jacket. Has anybody out there used one and do they help on pellet usage? Are they worth $250.00?

I would just use a welding blanket. The custom jacket for the Yoder is nice but I can not see spending the money on them. I use a welding blanket myself

I just bought mine and it literally cut the pellet consumption by over half. I love it and feel it was worth the money plus it looks good. I would recommend it, but thats my opinion

I also have one and it DOES cut the pellet consumption by a bunch!! If you are in a cooler climate I would get something for sure!! if not the one made for the unit then make something!!

I was thinking about buying one...at one time. I guess it all depends on the cost of your pellets.
I buy lumberjack by the pallet. I get them delivered for about 27 cents a pound. My last pellet consumption test results put me at 1.8 lbs per hour for doing ribs...and it takes 8 hours to cook them. So, my cost for doing ribs is $3.88 total.
"IF" the cover reduced my consumption by 1/2... it would drop my cost to $1.94.
But, I would have to cook ribs 128 times, OR, run the pit at 225* for 1024 hours to break even with the cost of the grill blanket.

So, in my case, I'll just burn they few extra pellets.

guess it would also cut down on coming to temp time as well ?

like gwapo says guess it all comes down to how cheap the pellets are.

Ah and also it would cut down on your electricity bill. Over here that would be a major part of the cost of running a pellet burner.

Yes that is a very good point in how much pellet costs are. I have used a pellet unit in -30 temps and it eats the pellets like a sumo wrestler thinking twinkies is going out of business...OOps wait they are. I would say you can't go wrong with anything Yoder makes. They make some of the best products available to people. I would not wait to long for I know last year they had a limited supply and would not want to see you not get a Yoder jacket if you want one

The temps just dropped here in Flagstaff. We got our first snow a couple of days ago. I just ordered a thermal jacket for my YS640. 'Nuff said.

With respect to Bill-B-Que's point about getting one before they're OOS...

It's a very good one. I went to the All Things BBQ website to order one early in the week, and they were OOS. They just came back in stock yesterday, so I ordered one quick. If you're thinking about getting one, now would be a good time...before the REAL winter sets in.
