  • Using Parkay???

I was poking around over at the Brethren, and I ran across a post in the competition area, where someone was panicing about the stores being out of Parkay... WTF? What do they use Parkay for? Margarine is one molecule away from being a butter flavored plastic.

    What gives?

Yeah, I finally got some answers from a few folks over there... evidently it is all the rage to spread it on your ribs before foiling, or even braise your chicken in it...

      Parkay... the non-utter butter...

I have seen this- I think Dan tried it last time at Eagle maybe? I don't use it personally. I DO remember we were both not too happy with our ribs tho, don't know if it had much to do with the parkay however.

Alot of guys toss in a half pound of brown sugar at foil too... (shiver)
Last few batches of ribs I never foiled at all tho, came out fine.

I asked the same question over there, and the responses ranged from "some guys do..." to "butter has a lower burning point..."

Beats hell outta me... I've never heard of it. I've used melted butter in my mop/baste before, butt didn't really see the point.

I've heard that even flies won't land on margarine. If it is that bad I'm not using it. hmmmm Might make a good insect repellant.:)
