  • Charcoal Chimney trick

Those darn grates that hold the coals in chimneys sometimes fall out from the distortion in the thin side metal jacket caused by the high heat of the burning charcoal. Here's a quick and dirty solution. I used ceiling support wire, but a screw and nut or about anything that will fit in the "loop" and not fall out should work... Do all three "loops" around the chimney of course.

Fortunately, no. I caught the grate with a tab out the other day, and it would happen once in a while in my old chimney as well. Got tired of looking/worrying about it

seein as you can't walk to steps in a straight line in my garage it's so full of construction material, I'm sure I got some of that laying around no prob...

                  Thanks for the tip Rich

I noticed that on my Weber chimneys, and after just a very short time. I have 2 Weber chimneys, and in one of them, I stuck a piece of wire in the loops... in the other, I bent a finishing nail in each loop.

                    Bottom line... great advice Rich!

well hell boys I built this back in 85 so I guess that makes it round a bout 25 years or so.
these do not fall apart ya just have to dump them with fire flying out the end.

What gauge is that? I used a piece of stove pipe, they last 3 or 4 years.

Me too Hawg...got nails in each one. I think mine went really quick, because I just plop it down on the turkey burner, and that baby deformed really quickly. This is on my short list of things to fix when I get a chance. I'm thinking of remaking the grate with some heavy duty steel rod welded into a circular cone...I'll keep you posted.
