  • Gasket on an offset smoker?

Is it common practice to put a gasket on the lid of an offset smoker? Thank you for your help.

Permatex makes a good high temp RTV silicone material. Comes in a tube. I used it and it worked awesome. Apply it and let it cure for a bit. Then I laid plastic wrap over it all the way around. Closed the lid and squished the sealant to match the door. Left it for a bit. opened the door and removed the plastic wrap. Let the sealant finish drying and it was a perfect match. Been on there for years and still holding up

Lang don’t have one. a little leak don’t affect much. But if you feel the need JB’s method will work. Or use the RTV on the door and some cooking oil around the sealing area. Same result.

Never put one on my longhorn.. I remember WAY back in the day it seemed that was the deal. How to fix and or stop the smoke from leaking around my door(s).. Not an issue IMO.. Been smoking one the same hunk of steel now for 20 years and the meat still tastes great, ho and it is smokey too...

I used Nomex "lavalock" on my vertical section door on the Durango...

smoke coming out everywhere means too damn much smoke if it keeps up for any length of time IMHO,,, yeah your gonna get it sometimes but I sure dont wanna run like that...

If it’s a small amount and only coming from a few spots, I’d probably leave it be. If more smoke is coming out the door than the ‘stack, gasket it up
