  • Wood chips in gas grill

I have a Weber Spirit 3 burner gas grill I've tried a long time to put wooden pieces inside so that will give a smoky flavor but they never catch fire I don't know what to do....

I've tried... hickory, maple... apple, chips blocks etc. Dry wet...
Even in high flame. No smoke even[emoji53]

    What's wrong with my grill?

not sure, i have the same grill and i use a smoke box with large chunks and it works for me. have you tried heating up the grill with the chunks for at least 15-20 min on high before cooking?

Try making an aluminum "pouch" to put the chips/chunks in & poke some holes in it. Take out one of your cooking grates & place the pouch in between the drip deflectors. Heat that side on high & see if you get smoke. I have the same grill in the 2 burner version. Yet to try this, butt think it should work

use chunks and place over one burner, can't see why itwouldn't work.
If it catches fire - wrap in foil and poke holes in foil.

        Seems like it should work
Oh yeah - and ALWAYS use dry wood, NEVER soak it.

Soaked wood gives nasty white smoke, dry wood gives good light blue smoke.

I have done this for years and it does work. However, an amazn tube works better.
