  • Biscuit Test on the Pit Boss

Did a biscuit test on the Pit Boss this morning to assess how even it cooks and to determine any hotspots.

    At 30 minutes

    At 60 minutes

    At 90 minutes

Looks like the left front corner cooks a little warmer but from what I see, if I stay away from the extreme edge there's not much need to rotate or flip.

One 180° turn mid cook should do it.

Hey, they went a little long for that. They weren't exactly flaky and tender. Although I did taste one. Annoyingly, and I have heard this about pellet smokers when I was doing my research, almost no smoke flavor. They burn so clean that there's not much smoke flavor imparted. Although I have heard good things about Knotty Wood pellets. Apparently they use wood and bark that gives a little "dirtier" smoke that helps with smoke flavor. Going to try some of these almond pellets soon.

Everyone here knows that I hate my Traeger 075. Worst purchase I ever made and I would never say anything good about Traeger and this pains me to say. I've owned this unit for over 12 years and used different pellets along the way, some 40 bucks a bag but I have never found a better pellet than Traeger pellets. They burn clean, thin blue smoke at any temp even over 300. Others burn white with a lot of ash. Dave, I would give them a try and at usually 1/2 the price of other pellets. Also my piece of crap has "P settings" 0 to 9. Changing the time the auger sends pellets to the hopper which is handy, not sure yours has that? Good luck and enjoy brother.

I plan ahead, that way I don't do anything right now.
