  • New Traeger Timberline 850 Problems

I just purchased a Traeger Timberline 850. I spent a lot of money to buy Traeger’s top line grill because I am serious about my smoking. I fired it up today for my first smoke. I set it for 235 and it just wouldn’t come to temperature. It kept hovering between 195 and 200. So, I called their support line. A nice young lady, Carolina, took my call and reviewed my problem as they were able to check the WiFi record of my smoke. She kept asking me if I was using Traeger pellets (I was).

Finally, she advised that the problem was the induction fan that I will get in about a week. So here is how it works. I purchased a very expensive top of the line grill. It is defective. I get to wait a week, at least, to have the honour of doing my own repair to their defective machine. Sigh, I guess that is the way of things these days.

I asked if I would get an extension of my warranty to cover the period from when I purchased my grill until I could actually use it. I was advised no because there is a 3 year warranty. I pointed out that everyone else actually had a grill to use for their 3 years. I haven’t even been able to use mine yet my warranty continues to tick away. Sadly, this logic was to no avail.

I had hoped that buying the top of the line from Traeger would be a good experience. So far, not so much.

I will post my assembly video and a review of how it works once I actually get to try it.

I think I would ask for a refund. Obviously they are experienced with your problem. No big deal to them. Pretty shitty customer service if you ask me...

Wait, if you have to fix it - what is the warranty for?? Ohhh, parts.
1st use, I think I might consider taking it back.

Thanks for the support. I purchased the unit from a dealer that is a 3 hour drive away or I would consider taking it back. It's not that there is a flaw so much as the fact they offer no consideration for my inconvenience. All I asked for was a warranty extension until it was fixed.

That would make a difference. Hope it comes out aight!

Having worked on my GMG (not a Traiger), I kinda question the induction fan, but mine is not a T, it is a clone, should work pretty much the same???

Sorry to hear this! I hope you get it corrected with minimal thyme & problems invested. I agreed with the others comments regarding a refund, or AT LEAST a warranty extension or something from Traeger to make you feel satisfied that they handled your situation correctly. I also get it that a 3 hour drive is not fun, or convenient. Hope it all works oot for you.

Thanks, Guys! I am ready to accept that it is the fan because of the way the Timberline works. It turns the fan on and off at different points in the heating. If it wasn't up to snuff, it wouldn't have time to cause the pellets to heat up like my old LG which kept the fan going all the time.

I hope it works out, too!

Everyone I know that has bought a Traeger since Joe Traeger sold out to a foreign company and investors, have either returned them or abandoned them for a better rig with better customer service and quality.

I know a three hour drive turns to six as a round trip. that stinks.

That said I would be burning the dealers ear off with a phone call or two maybe even two dozen. He might be able to provide and technician to install the fan and he maybe able to alter the delivery date to reset your warranty.

I have always told my kids and grandkids, the answer is away no if you don't ask. Some times you need to change who you are asking.

Well, to be fair, they have reached out to me and been more supportive. I will hang in a bit longer.

I have heard back from Traeger and they have been more helpful. Hopefully they will give me the help I need.
