And that is what I have leaned and I also think a thin hotel pan would also work.

Now to clean and re-season my bride's passed downed cast iron pan before it is missed.

    Thanks.

Savanah, Check out this thread on a different forum. http://http://www.smokingmeatforums....your-mods-here

I have a Masterbuilt XL and went with the cast Iron skillet method. Lot of people there with this smoker and some different ideas, but the CI pan seems to be the best, I dont use a lid and use big chunks. Good luck.

I have a masterbuilt smoker like this one and all I did was hammer the pan flat. I got rid of the holes and the pan works fine.

I had the same smoker and problem with flare ups.I went. To a 2nd hand store and bought a cast iron pot and a lid that I drilled a lot of holes in.this stopped the flare ups and gives a lot of smoke

Good luck with your Masterbuilt, hope yours is better than mine is. Here's a link to the "other" forum where I, and a number of people discussed how to mod them. http://http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/99373/masterbuild-xl-mods-post-your-mods-here I did a lot of work to mime annd ended up getting disgusted with it due to cheaply made parts. The temps would not stay steady in wierd ways. It would be cruzin along at 225 for hours and them my Maverick alarm would go off because the temp spiked up to over 300, No rhyme or reason! Did it a number of times, Frustrating as Hell. So I bought a Yoder, and the Chinamasterbuilt Is now my cold smoker!!

Long story short, I did the C.I. Frying pan trick and it made god smoke with wood chunks. The vented chip pan was a stupid idea!!!

Temp spikes on a master build pro

Does anyone have problems regulating the temp on a propane master build smoker? I tried adjusting the vents and got rid of the stock water pan and went with a bigger pan and a cast iron pot for the wood. This helped some, any ideas?

I came to the conclusion that mine needed more air venting too. Was going to add some more air vents, but gave up on the project after my last temp spike pissed me off. Good luck Crane1. Hope yours is more trouble free.
