  • Hot & Spicy Fish BBQ Sauce

Just been told that I'm to provide the "best ever" chillie sauce for a planned off shore fishing trip. Have some old recipes laying around but looking for something new to try, even rubs that will blow the socks off the most hardened expert (arent we all though experts I mean). Will be sea bound for three days without shore leave with BBQ fixture on board. 10 souls on board and these guys are tried and try fish-O's so any help appreciated.

Will be off the West Coast of West Australia, look for Geraldton then head to South Africa for 4.0hrs.

    thanks in anticipation

What are you cooking? Fish? It's kinda unclear. And of course, sauce/rubs would be radically different for fish.

Right on Spud, sounds like a fun trip.
Some flavors come to mind when talking about seafood and fish rubs. Capers, lemon, butter of course, horse radish, dill weed and for your milder fish go with toasted almond and/or think about some cajun blackened seasonings(someone else jump in with those ingredients) I'm thinkin cayanne, thyme and somethin else?
Why not try some fish tacos on board? Easy to eat on the go. Soft flour tortillas, any grilled fish, some shredded cabbage and fresh salsa on top. Damn good eating. Good luck and have fun

Fish, fish and fish I'm told.
Reminds me can I have the info re having you send some of your Gear sent over now that we are living back in Oz.

        Thanks Pit Master,
Have me thinking again now, have to admit with these guys they are pretty well feral so will be into the hot stuff. Thinking that a chilli rub or a hot something that will become a on board compition to see who can actually eat it. Is that to dangerious being so far off shore ??????

Here is a recipe of mine. The sauce used is a sweet garlic sauce. But I have added smoke Jalapeno pepppers chopped or Cheyenne pepper to heat it up. It's a great fish sauce and I have had allot of good feedback on it. Just replace the salmon with whatever fish you are cooking. Don't worry about cold smoking etc. Grilling or pan frying is fine.

Hey have a great & safe trip!

I like that combo of flavors Rob. I use the same ingredients for some of my dishes. Allot more soy but I think I'll try your proportions and add a little crushed red pepper. Thanks for the link.

One of my faves is a simple lemon-pepper. Plenty for fresh cracked black- and maybe add a few flake of red for a zing and color.

As far as ordering, I THINK shipping about doubles overseas... so order 3+ pounds of stuff anyway...makes it worth while. I dunno if there is an option for overseas on the site tho. PM me an address and I'll look into it for you.

How about a spicy rub and top it with a spicy hot mango -jalopeno salsa or some hot pineapple salsa - just trying to think of something diffent -

How about some kind of curry rub?

Hot & Spicy Fish BBQ Sauce

Know U guys would have forgotten about this post, nbut I didnt.
Fishing trip was fantastic, 12 mad fisho's plenty of the amber brown and fish bitting.
Tried a few different of the suggested ideas you guys posted before I went and settled on a combination of smoke Jalapeno pepppers, toasted almond, fresh cracked black pepper, Curry powder some Cheyene and parsley chopped with tumuric and salt.
Took it dry and either mixed with oil for wet rub or none for dry rub. Was great on fish any which way, but best was with coconut milk, lime juice and mouth size fish marinaded over night. This was the best and in morning fish was cooked..
Havent the fishing pic as yet but Son says they are on the way..
                    Thanks Guys for assistants.
                    cheers spud Oz.
