  • Apple BBQ sauce

Saturday I did ribs and made this sauce, everyone liked it. Tonight I grilled hamburgers over charcoal and I threw in a couple of small chunks of pear wood. When we went to eat the wife realized we were out of ketchup so I suggested this sauce. Let's put it this way we'll never eat ketchup on a burger again. So here's what I did.

    2c. Ketchup
    3/4c. Apple cider molasses
    1/2c. Apple juice
    3T. Cider vinegar
    1T. Chipotle pepper sauce
    1T. Worcestershire
    1t. Minced garlic
    1t. Onion powder
    1T. Mollasses
    1T. Brown sugar
1t. Liquid smoke(probably get killed for this one but it did add a nice flavor)

    Simmered for 20 minutes

I sometimes use it as well. For example I'll add it to my beans when I can't fit them on the smoker and do them in the oven.
And Ryan that is a great recipe, but technically you won't eat just ketchup on a burger. As there is ketchup in the sauce(yeah I know, but I've been drinking....heavily). And I also am printing it out and giving it a try.

gmotoman yes there is ketchup in it. If you do try it let me know what you think. It was a first run, IMO I think its bout right may need a little tweaking. Maybe somebody with a better palate than me can fine tune this. I'm also surprised it was better on beef than pork.

cant decide which is worse, owning liquid smoke or no pics of the burger.

                  ;-)

OK I did this last night as I was making a batch of BBQ beans in the oven with my D.O.for my dad. I did a few mods.
                      1. No ketchup in the house. I used 1 6oz can each spicy V-8, and tomato paste.
                      2. No onion powder. I used about a 1/6th of a minced onion
                      3. No apple cider molasses. Used regular molasses + 1 packet spiced cider mix.
                      4. I think liquid smoke is very strong. I use a medicine dropper for adding it. I only used 2 drops vs. a whole teaspoon.

I think this is a great recipe. In my opinion it can be easily modified for missing ingredients. It had a great flavor profile, and I will be making it again. I might try adding a few dollops of bourbon to it as well. GREAT INFO! Great RECIPE!

I never even thought of bourbon. The ribs got rum the cook got busch light. I'm going to have to try that. Out of apple cider molasses I'll have to make more soon so I can try it.
