  • Asian sauce

I found a good Asian sauce online and made it yesterday for a fattie I smoked today. I was looking for a Korean BBQ sauce similar to what I'd had while stationed there in the late 90s. I did five fatties today and the one I used this on was everyone's favorite.

    Ingredients
    1 cup soy sauce
    3/4 cup dark brown sugar
    2 tablespoons minced garlic
    1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
1 tablespoon chile-garlic sauce (such as Sriracha(R)) (optional)

    1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
1 teaspoon Asian (toasted) sesame oil
1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper
    1 tablespoon cornstarch
    1 tablespoon water

    Directions
Stir soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, rice wine vinegar, chile-garlic sauce, ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper together in a saucepan; bring to a boil.
Whisk cornstarch and water together in a small bowl until the cornstarch dissolves; pour into boiling soy sauce mixture. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until the sauce is thick, 3 to 5 minutes.

If you like General Tso you'll like this. It has a nice sweet start and a decent spicy finish to it.

Thanks, I'll give that a try!

On another note, where were you in Korea, Camp Casey by chance?

I rolled through there at one point in 89 doing Team Spirit and Bear Hunt.

Went up via the USS Tripoli and we heloed in. Did the two deals and caught an LSD out on Incheon.

Korea was cold, wet, muddy and that was the good stuff.

Stationed at Camp Red Cloud March of 98 to June of 99. I spent many Friday nights up at Camp Casey. 122 Signal battalion was split between Crc and Casey and I had a cousin who was an E7 up there.
