Between this thread and the paypal premier membership thread, Ole jeff is gettin alot of press these days.
I'm actually pretty tired of seeing the negative SMF related threads. This crew needs to get over that site, and the owner. Funny how S-M has been up and running for over a year and ya'll still find something to bash them about. Last time I checked there hasn't been anything posted on SMF that is negative towards this site (or it's members/owner) or any others.
Maybe this "smiles" -> needs to have the horse replaced with the SMF logo.

last I looked, They were bashin MinnBill pretty hard this morning. The mods there are also lurking on here and aren't exactly perfect or innocent either. i wouldn't let it get to you , or take it so personal. Some folks like to poke fun at others.Political jokes, agendas, funny emails, ect. Everyone here is an adult, and we are able to dish it out and take it too.
This site is a "spin off" of that site. There is bound to be some repercussions for a long , long time. lots of folks go to both places, or even many places. I have made this place my primary Q site for now. It has a great feel, and the owner here is not out to make money on the backs of the members. Jeff is a salesman, he is no Q chef or pitmaster . He has allot of people fooled into thinking he is.
But alas, its the internet!

That's because, if anything is posted or related to this site or any other BBQ or Smoking site is deleted by Jeff or the mods... If you do not believe me, Just ask Jerry. It is what Jeff has asked them to do.. Just like he asked me to do when I was a mod there.
I know there was a post by Brian at one time he said "If it is related to the topic or post, it would be fine" I bet those have been removed as well..

Capt - you, and quite a few others on this site, have taught me almost everything I know about this wonderful hobby. I am grateful to you (and others) for that, and consider you guys (and gals) my friends. I also thought it was neat that someone thought of me enough to invite me to this site, once it got up and running.
That site lost a wealth of knowledge by the absence of some of the members leaving (or being banned), to come here (or elsewhere). That is SMFs loss. Because of that, I found myself here, trying to continue learning from the best I could, about the art of smoked meats.
I suppose that I'm just confused about the anger, and bitterness, that people still have towards that site. When will it be time to move on and not pay any attention to them?

I appreciate the kind words Laurel.
I know it goes in cycles.I think often times these cycles are spurred by others who come here and express their displeasure with the admin at SMF. I used to like Jeff at first, but I don't trust him any longer. I'll just keep the reasons to myself. I have removed my tutorial on the fatty forum there and cleaned out my PM box. I am still a member there, just not very active. The place has changed for the worse, although its still serves a great purpose to the folks anxious to learn some aspects of smoking and the direction to go. There are still some great people there too. I could go on and on about the changes and what is missing, but it really doesn't serve a point.
You or I may not want to hear about it, but others have a right to vent or rant. I guess its part of helping people overcome issues.

I still post on SMF; my reason may a bit different from others, but in the big picture should be the same for all.
When I found SMF the only thing I smoked was sausage (for a few years) and maybe a little cheese, and was self taught on both. I wanted knowledge experience from other smokers but did not know where to start. With a little internet surfing I found SMF and there were people there willing to post their best recipes, smoking temps and practices for things I had never tried before... I was in heaven.
Since a little over a year ago I changed my tune. As much as I like chatting with people that know their smoke, I enjoy helping new members at SMF get into smoking.
I find myself at smoked-meat finding a top notch recipe or smoker build and then at SMF looking to answer a question I have experience with.
Smoked-Meat has its place with experienced smokers, but we will never find better recruits than from SMF.
I am reading this thread, and I feel my sista from another mista's pain.
I will now and forever be grateful for the wonderful people whom I have come to know and love from SMF. Some I did not grow to know and love until here.
Laurel is one of the most incredible people I have never met, one day we will meet she is my sista! You know I love you soul sista!
Ry, well I don't even need to say a word..
When I joined SMF, my first friend was "Sir" Rich, who to this day never ceases to amaze me, hence "Sir Rich".
E... my E... taught me about extreme weather and smoking, fishing, hunting and tragic loss.
Capt Dan, Tip... both people I was terrified of because of their knowledge of the "art" of smoking.. they are my "Druids"
My list is endless...
I would not have the knowledge, nor the friendships I have now if not for SMF. Lee I absolutely love you! I would trade 12 Jerry's for just you!
That all said, there are plenty of people who were treated differently by the mods, and the owner of the site. I am going to jump out on a limb here and say it was unfair. When you contribute to someone else making $$ and your not compensated, not that anyone wanted to be.. but then treated not equally by the people who run "Animal Farm"... you get bitter and then rant...
Just my .02
Steve, here's your box!
The only one on the block with the super fastest turbo charged
I think we should all quit this site and go to SMF
Can't they won't let me.
and yeah i could sign on with a different name - but I've invested a lot of time in the curious aardvark persona, at some point in the future it'll be the brand name I hopefully make my living from. So no I'm not going to change now lol
Most of the threads about smurf are just taking the piss - we earned the right.
You'll find those threads that start nasty soon get turned round.
I was banned for answering pm's about s-m and the 'split'
not for anything posted or said publicly.
My main feeling towards smurf is sadness. it used to be a great forum.
Learned an awful lot over there, mainly from folks who are now over here.
smurf is now pretty much folks who know very little teaching it to those who know even less.
If someone like dan posts an answer it's generally swamped by a dozen contradicting ones that are just plain nonsense.
So yeah, we take the piss. People like ken and dan and rich helped in a big way build smurf, if they don't have the right to poke fun, who does
I'm site admin on the webs only slinging forum - it would never occur to me to read someone's PRIVATE messages. pretty sure I'd find someone slagging me off if I did, but unless it was posted in open forum, or someone's getting hate mail - it's none of my business.
I truly find it sad that the smurf gestapo feel it's their business to read peoples mail, and feel nothing but pity that they then choose to ban people based on erroneous assumptions drawn from the reading of private mail.
so if we've upset you sumo - I'm sure we apologise - it was not intended, but we do have the right to take the piss and we'll probably keep on doing it as long as we're given sufficient cause by jeff and the blue skinned smurf gestapo.
I mean come on - $3.99 to download a basic 'how to smoke' guide. That has to be pisstake worthy. if the forum was any good - the guide would be redundant.
He's basically saying that the only way you'll learn anything over there is to pay him - now that's funny to me

I totally agree with your statement, MossyMO. S-M definitely is a place where I can find some new things to try, and advance my smoking skills at the same time.

Kelly - I love ya sista!! Without being a copycat, I feel the same way you do about the people you mentioned and what they have done to help me advance with this fine, fun, art. If I was on the flip side of the SMF treatment train, then I probably would be upset, especially considering all the time and effort ya'll have put into the forum.

CA - you most definitely have that right to post your frustrations, just as I have the right to post mine. No apologies are necessary, but thank you. One of the big bonuses about S-M is that Ken and Rich allow us to exercise our 1st Amendment rights by allowing us to speak freely (and hold our breath for the fallout).
There are no hard feelings, I just got frustrated and posted that frustration. With all that being said, and a new day at hand, time for me to get back to what I love; learning from my mentors and having fun with smoking meats.
