  • Need a recipe for a half smoke

For bragging rights I am searching for a recipe to duplicate the half smokes that you can get in Washington D.C. complete with a recipe for Ben's chili.

I have never eaten one of these but need to find a copy cat recipe.

Can anyone or will any one be willing to share a recipe?

What I was told is that this is the "hot dog" of choice in the D.C. area. There is a special chili sauce that goes on them and they are a mixture of beef and pork.
I have never heard of them before but this sales rep says they are excellent and would like to make them here.

I'm thinkin either DanMcG or Gunny will have a clue on them. They sound interesting, might have to give it a try. You know....make chit up! A half beef, half pork spicy thick dog. Smoked!

So after reading the Wikipedia page, your looking for nothing more than a coarsely ground 50/50 beef / pork chili dog...

So my question would be what makes this dog so damn good... Is it the smoked dog or the chili they put on it??

It's spicy so I'm guessing they are doing something different with the spicing. The chili is another question, but how many varieties of chili are there? Looks like it has beans in it so It's not yours (T.H.).

I am told that the chili is part of it. I will check out the link, thanks,

As soon as I get it figured out I will let you know.

On a different note hit one out of the park today at wedding. Cooked up some pulled pork and some kielbasa with sauerkraut.

The sauerkraut was make so that it was not overpowering and even those that did not like kraut tried it and loved it. Nothing better than someone telling you they do not like something but love the way you do it.

A half-smoke is a "local sausage delicacy"[1] found in Washington, D.C. and the surrounding region. Similar to a hot dog, but usually larger, spicier, and with more coarsely-ground meat, the sausage is often half-pork and half-beef,
sounds like an american bratwurst to me.
I'm guessing probably liquid smoke rather than smoked. But who knows
