  • The First Score in my Sausage-Making Equipment!

Didn't even cost me anything Mom-in-law sent me an Amazon gift card for me birthday, I turned that into these:

Today is my 91st day of being tobacco-free, and my cig money has fed my sausage fund, now sitting at $455

I had been looking at the LEM 3/4 hp grinder until I saw the Cabellas commercial grade 1 hp grinder on sale for aboot $130 off, cheaper than the LEM. Well, I let that sale get away, but I think I'm going to wait for it to go on sale again and jump on it. I have another 10 months to go before I can actually use it... And the cabellas bucks add up

Go ahead and wait. Cabela's puts their grinders on sale fairly often, along with free shipping on orders over $99.

I wonder if I'm going overboard going with that big of a grinder. Someone left me some advice to get the biggest / best one I can afford. After a year of stuffing my former $5 a pack into a jar, I'll be able to afford a damn good one. I'm having a problem visualizing how much 100 pounds of sausage links actually is. But then again, I'm looking at bulk breakfast, snack sticks, grinding my own burger... What else? That jerky slicer attachment looks WAY cool too! Kinda pricey, but did I mention how cool it looks? Anyone got one?

On top of not spending on smokes, I'm NOT buying 20 lunches a month at $5 to $8 a pop. I'm NOT spending $80 a week on gas. Turned off my cell phone to save $60 a month. Don't even want to guess how much I'm NOT spending on booze (I'd gladly keep that expense if I could!!!) Momma don't know it yet, but there's a cabinet smoker gonna live on my deck next year too! Gotta hang them sausages somewhere!

                          >>>>>>I wonder if I'm going overboard going with that big of a grinder.

I went thru the same thoughts when I was at the buying stage. 100 pounds of sausage is somewhere near 12-16 butts after deboning. I also make some snack sticks with venison and beef.

I make most of my sausage in 10 pound lots.

Cold strips of butt fly thru the 1/2 hp unit way quicker than I can keep up with.. the 10 lbs is done in less than 5 minutes.

I didnt look but I think all the accessories work with it. Tho I would guess the big mixer would make it groan with 40 pounds in it.

I also got the 11 pound commercial stuffer with the motor drive.

Making sausage here is no longer a difficult task.

Congrats on the fine reading material, and especially the smoke free gig!!

I have a Lem 1/2 horse grinder that I bought aboot 5 years ago... has never given me a lick of trouble... It's a workhorse. My stuffer is a Grizzly 5 pounder, which also works great.

                            Drinks well with others

If you can save money being satisfied with a lower hp rated grinder (LEM or Cabelas), you could put the savings towards a good meat slicer if you haven't already got one.
