I see you can buy meat grinder plates with a hub or without one. Is there a advantage to a meat grinder plate with a hub?

Thats the only advantage I can think of..

Some have a "hub" area built in to keep the plate in place & I think some do not....
...... Can you clarify your question a bit more?

my old enterprise power grinder has plates of both styles. the only advantage i can see of the hub style is a bit more surface area to support the end of the auger as the thickness of the hub and the plate is a tad thicker than the hubless plates. I have to agree that hubless and having the two sharp surfaces outweighs the additional bearing support (if that is really what the hub was intended for)...Charbroil SFB

Hub or no hub?
One thing I do know is that the hub type plates are easier removed after grinding when your hand are slick with fat, however, for cost reasons, Go with the double sided plate. Once the meat you are grinding is completely around the feed auger in the head, there is very little pressure on the center hole of the cutting plate. Lynn
