  • Kingsford rancher xl

I saw this smoker the other day at home Depot. Looks to be a good smoker for the price. I'm looking for anyone that has one personally or has used one to give my their thoughts.

Here's a link to the smoker. Let me know what y'all think.

I think Crusty Old Salt has one of those. I've never seen one.

Here's some pictures of it. The fire box is welded but not welded to the smoker.

It looks like a Charbroil version of an OK Joe. I would check to see who made it. As far as I know Kingsford does not make cookers them selves. I have neen seen one.

Side by side it's made with much heavier duty steal than an ok Joe. That was actually what I wanted next but then I saw the rancher next to it and it just looked so much nicer.

After looking for a minute it appears to be hd's brand, Rivergrille lol

If it's your first offset you could try it. If it looks to be better than the Chinese version of OK joe it might turn out to be ok for your need. Being from Oklahoma and having gone to college in Stillwater I am biased to anything compared to the original.

However, buy an offset, have fun making modifications, get a good thermometer, buy more charcoal and wood than you plan for. Always, always keep that chimney stack wide open when cooking. adjust your temp and smoke from the firebox end.

Cool thing is that you can always sell it Craigslist and get a fancier one!! But it gives you time to discern what you like in your cooking and how to manage it. Cooking/smoking is a hobby and an art. You will have to ruin a couple of things, step back and say bad words then say Oh, that's what I should have done. (it's like marriage but don't repeat that!).

I say go for it. Try it. If you have questions then bring them to the forum. That's what we are all about. And take pictures to submit because they help to explain the dilemma you experienced.

Some days I think Bravo Zulu, other days it's more like Whiskey Tango Foxtrot...
