I brew and just recently made the leap into all grain. Just before reading this, I was researching which corny kegs I should get (pin or ball lock).

The best part of the hobby is that the beer is not only great, but ends up costing about 25-30 buck for about 5 gallons (2 cases) of beer. No need to Natty up anymore.

Whether is extract, partial mash or all grain...its fun.

As fars as homebrewing goes, I think we need a leader in that catagory it's wide open
i'll do my best at the leader part. i'll have to see if i'd be able to add some pics when i do my next brew session, which will hopefully be later this month or the beginning of next month.
my amber ale will be ready to bottle this next week or 2, so i'll see about including that as well.

        Re:

Greetings and welcome. Yep, I'm an ol' Appalachian-American boy here so ya know I've made everything from whikky to home brew. Getting my Soda rig finished now and gearing up to make some Ginger Beer. (found a deal on Allspice corns at Ollie's so I stocked up on em)

Being of French-German descent I've made perfume, wine, beer, vinegar (on purpose.....not malt vinegar....used mothers out of the last batch to do it) and the other stuff we're famous for in my part of the woods.

Have used extract, powdered EDME, and grain. Mostly, I like the Lagers with Hallertauer, Saaz, or Mount Hood. I use the Vierka powdered yeast and favor the darker beers.

I like to brew in the cooler months. I have 14 carboys and never enough bottles.

I generally have a glass gallon jug on the top of the fridge bubbling away
making grape wine out of grape juice concentrate. My standard before bedtime shot of wine.

But I'm blessed with good hard water here. That more than anything else.

LOL, I noticed in the groups listing that there are:

Mad Hunky Testers (10 members and 9 discussions)

Brining learning group (16 members and 1 discussion)

I'm kinda new here and all yet.....barely 100 post...but I would like to see a Home Brewers group and a BBQ Tube Group for tutorials cause I've seen some good stuff done lately, Dutch Oven cooks, and groups for some of the little extras that can make a cook out a real occasion to remember. Like they do em in Texas. (and I remember em from Grandad's in Texarkana.....and the time he took me over to a public park to watch the Black folks having their annual Juneteenth BBQ....and I'll never forget the time they were having and especially the goat carcasses they had spread out on sticks next to the bed of coals)

An Ice cream group may be a thought too. I grew up with a dairy farm full of Jerseys in the family so I've had plenty of experience with it.
You can make some real ice cream with that 6%.

..........an one other thing. Anyone here done an Ox roast ? Or eaten
              Ox ?

A Philly homebrewer here... In fact, I started kegging my beer now...and it's so much more enjoyable...having my own beer on tap at home, and no bottling process (my least favorite part of homebrewing).

Currently doing extract brewing with specialty grains...building my mash tun now.

                    Re:

Yeah, that's what I'm going to have to do in time. Find me an old fridge to make a kegerator out of and start chasin some beer trucks down to see if I can euchre em outa an empty keg. (who knows they might horse trade for some of my other ol' junk)

I gotta near full spare Co2 bottle sitin around. I can make beer ez enough,
                    so a fridge & a keg and I'm good.

I think I might have talked to one of the brewers he is hiring at Kuhnhenn's Summer Solstice last month. Let me know when its open, I pass through that way a lot during the summer heading up to the family cottage.

Not arguing wit ya...but $50 sounds expensive for a kit. I was typically paying anywhere between 25-35 per kit depending on the style and amount of ingrediants. Once I went all grain, the price dropped even more.

I use to brew beer but no longer. HeHe to much work and I can drink it faster than I can make it.

I still like to make wine, hard/soft cider, and mead in the fall.

I'm a bit of a home brewer and belong to a local club. The I really like the club and have met some good friends at the meetings.
Brewing beer takes time just like smoking. When I brewed on the weekend, I would throw a shoulder on the BGE and by the time I was cleaned up it was dinner time. Now I try to brew during the week since my weekends are full.
You can do an extract kit in three hours or for me I do all grain in 5 hours.
I do have a brew stand in my basement, so I never have to set it up.
a good mail order company is www.midwestsupplies.com for kits.
I stalled early this spring due to a professional brewery my shop is doing and the new garage at home, and my new cabinet smoker, and racing, and a camper project.......

I brew wine, if I want a beer I just pick it from my Bud Light Lime tree.
