  • Review of Vacuum Bags

I was almost out of bags so while I was sitting in my deer stand a few weeks ago I decided I should probably get around to it. Tried to order online with my phone, but it was taking too much time from hunting. I ended up calling Lisa and was basically let "her" convince me what the best bang for the buck was.
I tend always spend about $100.00 bucks on rolls and told her that I wanted a mixture of 8 and 11 inch bags. (I wish they had 6 inch)

Here are a couple of pictures of the bags. They are different from foodsaver brand as they are not textured on both sides. Actually there is only a small strip of textured material in the center of one side that sort of acts as a "channel" for the air to escape.

Overall I was impressed with how the bags preformed. I think I found a new source for bags. They seem a little thinner but I think they will hold up well.

This is also how I fill them with fresh cut venison, I use a plastic cutting board rolled up and slide it into the bag.

    Slide roast into "funnel"

Remove "funnel" from bag and seal.

This virtually eliminates all contamination of the sealing edge from the meat.

For my sausage grind I use a smaller container (pretzel container from Aldi) with the bottom cut out and a slit up the side. For some reason my wife seems to have a bunch of these and I tend to have to make a new one every year.

Inserted all the way to the bottom and the bag will stand up.

Just put a little twist on the "funnel" and it is ready for the next bag.

I wait until the end to seal up all the meat, I measure all the grind and then divide it up so I get 2.5 3 and 5lb bags.

The old vacuum sealer performed great with these bags, I actually think they pulled a little more vacuum and actually worked faster.

Thanks man. I really appreciate the tips as well! I have tried her bags and they are fine. Sometimes I like them better but as far as how they hold up? I don't typically have anything in my freezer for more than 6 months to a year and the foodsaver bags work fine. I typically get foodsaver bags for much less as I wait for the sales and deals to pop up. Plus I use the portion bags frequently and she doesn't sell those at all.
If there was no deal and I NEEDED bags I'd probably buy from Lisa as the quality and price are worth it but when I can get foodsaver bags for quite a bit less it is a no brainer.

Really digging you ideas on loading the bags though. I am going to look at what I have around here to do that for the future!
I rub it every chance I get!

I usually hunt the sales as well and usually find them cheaper as well, but I was tired of looking and as I recalled they were not that much difference. The fact I had 2 deer to process also entered into the equation.

1- 5 min. phone call and in 4 days they were sitting on my door step.

After doing inventory of my freezer today, I ended up throwing out some bags of venison that the food saver bag had failed. I could not find a bad spot in the seal but there must have been.

I will say that it seems that I am able to pull more vacuum with the new bags, don't know why, but they do.

One thing that will kill the sealed bags is once frozen and it gets knocked around in freezer and one bag hits the next and you dont see it but the contact point sometimes ruptures the bag and hence the lost seal. Just a pinhole or nick and they are not always visible is all they need to loose vacuum.

When I am vac sealing, I dont get them to freezer immediately. Give them a little rest time and if you do have a bad seal it will show up in 10 minutes or so.
