  • How do you clean your Temp Probes and wires?

Just wondering how everyone else goes about cleaning the probes and wires for their remote thermometers and ATC's. I know they aren't water proof so it's been a real chore trying to get them clean after cooks. Figured I'd ask for ideas.

To be honest all I have ever done is clean the probes with a soapy rag and wipe the wires down with a damp towel..

Thanks, I thought I was the only one that was cleaning the probes and giving the wires a wipe down. I've seen some folks cook pics and their wires always seem new so I didn't know if there's was some other more effective method I wasn't aware of.

That's due to them only smoking a few times a week / month... Or a really light smoke..

Clorox wipes on the probe tips. Rub 'em with a Scotch brite pad if they get gunked up.

I never touch the wires. People clean them??

Wipe the end of the probe from the plug to the sensor end. No liquid. Just takes off the heavy grease. I use a scrub pad to clean the probe, again no liquid. A few times I needed a stainless steel scrubby pad you get at the grocery store.

I don't sanitize them since they sit in the cooker and get nice and hot and I don't plug them into the meat till the meats been cooking a while.

To keep the wires clean I wrap the exposed portion down to the probe in foil & then all that needs cleaning is the probe. For that I just use a scrub pad & a little soap.
                      .

Not to mention the occasional campfire
