    What is the Apollo Pepper?

There's a new superhot chili pepper in town. Ed Currie of Puckerbutt Pepper Company has done it again by crossing the Guinness World Record holding official hottest pepper in the world, the Carolina Reaper, with another superhot chili, Pepper X.

The result is called the Apollo Pepper, and as expected, it is blisteringly hot. It is notable that Mr. Currie is the creator of both the Carolina Reaper and Pepper X, and while little is currently known about this new pepper, we do know that packs some serious heat.
How Hot is the Apollo Pepper? (Apollo Pepper Scoville Rating)

The Apollo Pepper is reported to measure between 2,500,000 to 3,000,000 Scoville Heat Units on the Scoville Scale, putting it on par with the Pepper X. At the high end, this makes it roughly 600 times hotter than an average jalapeno pepper.

The only information available at this time comes from a hot sauce made with the Apollo Pepper called The Last Dab: Apollo by Heatonist. The hot sauce offers more concentrated heat than their previous superhot hot sauces, made with a combination of fresh peppers and dried peppers, distilled chili oil (how essential oils are made by using co2 extraction), and very little vinegar.

We're talking pure, unadulterated heat in hot sauce form, surely not for the faint of heart. If you love spicy food and hot peppers, this is one you need to try.

I have seen no official testing information, but will update this page as new information arrives.
Is the Apollo Pepper Hotter than the Ghost Pepper?

Yes, the Apollo pepper is roughly 3 times hotter than the ghost pepper. Ghost peppers measure in at about 1 Million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), while the Apollo pepper reportedly measures in at about 3 Million SHU.
Is the Apollo Pepper Hotter than the Carolina Reaper?

Yes, the Apollo pepper is roughly 1.4 times hotter than the Carolina Reaper. The Carolina Reaper measures in at about 2.2 Million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), while the Apollo pepper reportedly measures in at about 3 Million SHU.

Yes, I love spicy food AND hot peppers.

But my attraction to the super hots faded a long time ago.
The hottest I'll grow is the Red Savina Habanero. I believe it was the last open pollinated pepper to hold the record.
      Still my favorite.

In Hatch the son of the Farmer that has chili peppers named for him (big jim for one) has a large field he told me he grows acres of the worlds hottest pepper for some one he would not give the name of. he to;d me as the peppers get ready to harvest, he makes a call to the owner (not in this state) the guy flys in to albaquerque the farmer takes an 18 wheeler to the terminal and the plane is loaded. and off it goes. says that he is paid handsomely. could be the guy. I took the chip challenge a while back. worlds hottest pepper at the time. I took a nibble..oh no.. I like heat. but that super hot is not good for me. I saw an old drunk on a hunting trip in a remote area of the jungle the indians had brought peppers for the san cocho. he started eating them we told him very hot. he said no problem ate all of them. peeded with pepper hands crapped with pepper hands touched eyes. the next day he was blind for hours and was in so much pain. I never want to be that stupid drunk or even drunk.

I'm not interested in how hot the pepper is but in how it complements the food. I prefer a slow back heat. If you really want hot, spray it down with this. UDAP-Bear-Spray-best-overall.jpg?auto=webp&width=250.jpg

You mis-understand. I’m just saying that it’a beyond my capacity to appreciate heat at that level. And I also believe it past anyone’s, other than a fool.

most people do not like that much heat, but there many that do. it can be tamed as stated in other post. the tatse is what I look for. the heat at that level might kill people. But, so you understand research with this type of heat leads to all types of medical achievements. and all the other applications for salt water uses on invasive species on and on. and seems to has a big use in military application. even BBQ sauces. instead of the weak stuff called smithy's....try some of this instead. who knows.

Please extrapolate on the salt water uses on invasive species. I'm curious about that application. Having walked into a powdered CS trap once I can imagine it's military use.
                    Thanks

They put the hot stuff in paint for Hulls of ships. keeps barnacles from growing. they paint pilings at piers and locks gates to keep sea critters and fresh water critters from attaching are going on it.
There is so much more from use's on marine and fresh water items even oil rigs in the gulf. here is a bit. I believe old..
Technology: Barnacle Bill and the red hot peppers

                      Technology 22 May 1993
                      By Suzanne Kingsmill
Sailing enthusiast Ken Fischer was eating a devilled egg topped with Tabasco
sauce. After the inferno in his mouth died down he began to think about what
this extra-hot sauce would do to the unsuspecting barnacles on the bottom of
his boat. The thought led to the invention of a ‘hot’ epoxy-based paint that
is potent enough to drive away barnacles and other marine and freshwater
                      life.
A hull that is left in the water all year, especially in warm waters,
attracts a living zoo of barnacles, tubeworms, freshwater zebra mussels and
                      other wildlife.
Scraping or sandblasting the creatures off the hull and applying repeated
coats of toxic antifouling paint is time consuming, messy and expensive.
‘There had to be a better way,’ says Fischer.
Cayenne pepper, shares the same active ingredient as Tabasco sauce,
capsaicin, which is insoluble in water. So Fischer first tested his idea by
putting some double-sided adhesive on one side of a tile and rubbing cayenne
                      pepper on it.

He dropped the tile over the side of a dock in Florida – ‘The world’s worst
place for barnacles,’ he says. ‘After about three weeks I started to notice
that there were barnacles and tubeworms growing on the back side of this
tile but not where I had treated it.’
He also tried the Tabasco treatment on freshwater zebra mussels in an
aquarium. ‘As soon as they got on they got off right away. They didn’t like
it at all. It was too hot for them,’ he says.
Encouraged by his results he called the spice giant, McCormick, to see if
they would supply the pepper he needed to produce the pepper-based paint he
had in mind. McCormick came up with an extra hot red pepper powder and
derivatives called oleoresins, a resin and oil mix from the capsules and
                      seeds of the habanero pepper.

‘It’s the hottest pepper known to man,’ says Fischer. ‘To equate the heat
that this pepper gives off, take one measured drop of oleoresin, then add
250 000 drops of water and that will still give you a warm glowing feeling
                      inside your mouth.’
According to Jon Luikart, of McCormick the results from initial tests have
been very encouraging. The pepper-based paint works well he says, and the
company is conducting further trials on two different formulations at the
Charleston Naval Shipyards in South Carolina to find out how long the
                      effect lasts.
‘Our goal is to make it last as long as possible which would be about three
or four years,’ says Luikart. ‘Red pepper, being an edible product, is much
more environmentally friendly than a lot of the cuprous oxide type
products,’ he says. ‘The advantage is that we’re not using cuprous oxide or
zinc. We’re using essentially a natural product.’
And that’s good news for the barnacles too. ‘Barnacles are mobile and will
settle on a boat,’ says Luikart. ‘If it’s hot to them they will find some
other place that is more favourable. Rather than kill them it acts as a
                      repellant.’
Fischer has obtained a patent for his invention, which will be marketed
under the name of ‘Barnacle Ban’. Fischer says it should be available
                      commercially in about six months.

What is the hottest plant in the world?

                          Euphorbia resinifera

Resiniferatoxin, a chemical produced by the cactus-like plant Euphorbia resinifera, is the hottest chemical currently known, 1,000 times hotter even than capsaicin. A pure extract of this stuff scores 16 billion Scoville units.

seems they would be using this. it is already in military applications. must be hell to extract it. in oregon they wear hazmat suits to do horse radish in the processing plants.
