  • custom smoker covers

maybe i don;t really need a custom one, but i am looking for a BIG cover for the fridge smoker outside. i'm not too worried about it in all honesty, but i figured that if i could find a decent priced one, it wouldn't hurt to throw it on, particularly in the winter.

it'd have to be in the neighborhood of 6' tall on the right half, 2' tall on the left, and about 28" or so deep for both sides. I would love to get a custom one sewn up... I can get a pattern made pretty easily... the biggest problem is what material to use, and where to get it. the only things I can think of are cotton or polyester based, or a tarp. I am looking for a rubber-coated or plastic-coated, heavy canvas style. any suggestions?

canvas would be good but might get musty & rot depending on how wet you stay up there.

we used to have to get a new custom 1 made every year for our fish hold because of constant sun & saltwater they rot quickly-$350 each year.

i'd just go w/ a double stitched nylon tarp, thats what works best here w/ all the humidity & moisture we get.
    brink vertical charcoal(the carp)
    18" old smokey charcoal grill/smoker
    cast iron Hibachi
    22" Kettle w/ "Smoke-EZ" styled riser extension
    & rotisserator
12x7 wells cargo vending trailer(mods in progress)
stuffer, slicer & more carp than i can fit in it...
Marshall amps & various awesome guitars,drums,P.A.,etc.recording studio.....

interesting thoughts... i didn't think about the rotting aspect. with the dimensions i gave, it would be up off the ground a little bit to help, but in the summer, it can still get up to about 90% RH and 75*F for a couple weeks or so at a time. the winter is only about 10% RH tho...

I may be looking a little closer at some heavier tarps. the crappy ones I have now tear if you look at them just right.

How about some heavy duty Cordura Nylon? Same stuff that back packs, ice fishing shacks, uppers on some hunting boots. I'm sure you know what I am referring to. I bought some a few years back, a HUGE piece of it from Wal-Marts fabric department. Didn't cost much at all. Tough, durable and I don't think you would have an issue with rotting

oooooo... daddy like. that would work perfect i think. i might spray it down with some silicone or other water-proffing agent to help repel the water, but from what I have seen it used on, it works great all by itself. I actually have some on my boots that I am wearing now and it holds up better than the leather, by far.

Andy you can get either cordura or nylon pack cloth that is already coated to be waterproof. My tent person makes wall tents and whatever else you might want out of it. Rubberized trucking tarp would be a good option too. Check around your area for tent and awning folks. Should be able to sew you up something. The cost might be staggering though.

You could also try a local upholstery shop. We have one by us run by a guy with questionable citizenship credentials and he made a cover for the front of my motorhome for less than 1/3 what they wanted online

What about car/truck covers? They repel water and are designed to breath. Should be more than enough material there to be sewn into whatever shape and size needed.
