  • Ultimate smash burger tool!!!!

I was browsing another forum and someone posted this video and was asking what smash burger tool that was.

    <iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bi0weyUt8k0" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

That is one awesome looking smash burger tool. I did a little online searching and figured out it is a Vollrath 50661 1.6 pound stainless steel "steak weight". They have them on Amazon for $38.87, but the Webstrauant store has them for $29.99. Webstrauant store also has a 2.5 pound model for $33.88. I'm thinking that 2.5 pound model would be the ultimate smash burger tool. All stainless with a red silicone high heat handle. The one in the youtube video looks to be the 1.6 pound model and the handle is bend down a little more from use. This one is NSF certified for food use where as all the modified cement trowels are not.

And yes, I just ordered a 2.5 pound model. I ended up ordering it from Katom.com in Tennessee. They had them for $33 and shipping was $7 less than Westraurantstore shipping (which was $20 - wow!). $45.91 out the door to Georgia.

I think that is why I have never seen this model for sale before. With the maker calling it a "steak weight" it never came up in a google search on smash burgers, or burger tools, etc...

I would never use it on a steak, but hell yeah on a smash burger. This will pair nicely with my heavy duty Dexter stainless scraper/flipper. The "steak weight" is smooth bottomed unlike a lot of the cast iron weights you see used for this purpose.

Plates similar are in use all over the US for griddle cooks. Search griddle press. But nice acquisition for sure! Well stomped!

Don't know if I really need one unless I got and out door grill.

I know where I am going to stop for lunch this week when I'm in the city.

                    Nice press. But pricey

I'm a little cheap and still do them the old fashion way. A solid brick wrapped in aluminum foil. Weighs around 3-4 pounds and the brick was free. so only cost was 3-4cents worth of alum foil.

I usually have 3-4 sitting around. Work for burgers, but they also are great when doing chicken parts or bacon on the grill or griddle.
Also have easy and quick clean-up.

Nice, that looks like a great tool for the grilling arsenal. I got this one several years ago and really like it.

They cook quicker, and more sear while keeping the interior still kinda pink is what I gather. Yeah, I always been in your class, but had a smashed the other day. It was good.

The outside gets more of a crust on it and a lot of people like that extra crunch it gives a burger.
