  • Interchangeable grinding plates...?

I recently purchased Cabela's Commercial 1/2 horsepower meat grinder. I believe the size of the plates are #8. I called Cabelas to order a 10mm grinding plate. They are out of it and don't expect them in until mid August.

The Sausage Maker has what they say are #8 sized grinder plates to fit #8 type grinders in the size I need.

Does anyone know with some certainty that the plates that Sausage Maker sells will fit a Cabela's Commercial 1/2 horsepower meat grinder?

Just make sure it's for an electric grinder and the notches are in the proper location and shape.

As far as I know, the size given to a particular plate is interchangeable no matter who sells them. Just make sure its for and electric and not a hand driven grinder. FYI, I have purchased a few plates off ebay. Same plates you get in the stores, usually cheaper.

        Measure it

Here is a chart of plates sizes most plates made today have one single notch in the edge of the plate to prevent it from turning, these are also known as "enterprise" style.

There are some one off grinders out there that have tabs on the plates to keep them from turning, but I have not seen one of them for a while.

Most plates are 1/4 inch thick and available in carbon or stainless.

        Grinder Size
        Plate Diameter

        #5
        2 1/8"

        #8
        2 1/2"

        #10 / #12
        2 3/4"

        #20 / #22
        3 1/4"

        #32
        3 7/8"

If the notch wasn't right on the one you order you could always dremel it to the right size notch. I would think you would be pretty safe ordering one tho

I've got 2 grinders - both have totally different designed plates. One has three notches the other 2.

So just make sure you've seen a picture before you buy.
