I've eaten a fair amount of rabbit and we loved it. Taste like chicken. haha I bet it would make great jerky.

There's a joke about lesbian frogs in there somewhere...

Anyway... I was kinda shocked... in the freezer case at the local market are rabbits! Never seen that before. Look to be about 2-3 pounders?

The Jerky will have to wait a couple day's. Luckily I picked up some work this morning. Heck I got all winter.

Down here they recommend you freeze it first. That may be because we don't USUALLY get much frost.

Finally got out this afternoon, seen two bounding away through the brush. I don't have a dog so just walk around out back through the thick stuff which makes it hard to get a shot at times. Then while walking down a trail I seen a brown bump under a pine tree sticking up out of some snow only 20-25 feet away, wasn't very challenging even using this little 410 but I got one little wabbit. I don't think I'll be using the meat for jerky after cutting all the meat from the bone cuz there are just too many small pieces. Just need about 4 more and maybe time for bunny brats.

Got a whole 9 ounces of meat. Is the belly meat? it looked like meat but I couldn't pull it apart. Never saved the belly before.

My dad always skins, loses the feet and head and brines overnight before freezing.

For jerky - probably be thinking ground jerky. For sausage I'm after 3-4 bunnies worth of meat.

probably aim for a savoury sausage with a herby base.
Now I just need some bunnies and as I don't shoot stuff myself, I gotta wait lol

I figured you'd just throw rocks until you hit one.

                      lol it's a good point.

I don't actually kill anything if I can avoid it. No objection to anyone else doing the deed - but it's just never done anything for me.
So I leave it to those who enjoy it and I get the much more satisfactory job of turning it into proper food

That little POS ended up costing me over $6.67 an ounce. When I went to pick the critter up and bent down I stuck myself in the eye with some brush. It was ok for awhile but I only got 3 hours in the sack last night because it drove me nuts. Corneal abrasion, which means the dumb ass scratched his eye on a stick. Just got back from the clinic with some AB drops. Damn.

Had to chuckle a bit there Lee.. sorry.. Had that happen once. It'll drive ya nuts.

In my younger (much younger) years we had rabbits and used hooks (nails driven through the barn wall) that stretched about 6' across the back wall. 2 nails 10" apart bent upward stretching along the wall. It was like a production line. snap their little necks, hang em on the hooks cut off their cute little heads, gut em, skin em, rinse em and dump em in the pail.

You'd be surprised how fast a guy could fill a 5 gal bucket with dead rabbits...

We would raise about 30 or 40 at a time.. Good Grub them little bunnies.
