This was brought up a while back and the verdict was that I was to try it and report back. I may have a few chunks around that I pushed over last summer. If I can find a dry piece, I'll get it smoking and see what it smells like at least.

Alx and Fishawn have the same olive from the same So. Cal. location. It is an orchard olive from Hemet, Ca. When I got my olive wood, I first started a fire in the fire pit and assessed it. How does it smell? How does it burn? What kind of ash are you left with?
Stand around the fire and assess the situation with a 12 pack of beer. After that hit the sack. When you wake up in the morning...see if you still like the way you smell
          Good luck in your findings

According to your link, the states of Colorado, New Mexico and Utah consider the Russian Olive a noxious weed. I'll still try it once just to see.

I clicked on noxious weed on the link Keith and from my understanding they mean not desirable,non-native species that is adversly impacting your/the environment.Too bad Kudzo weed isnt useful in this area...crap grows a foot a day when spread here...
