  • Brand New Pit Boss 850 Cannot Connect to Wifi

    2/23

I just got a new PB 850 Series at 10 am EST today.

I am unable to connect the rig to the wifi app. I changed it to 2.4 mghz and it still does not work. The app is not allowing me to enter my network and password information manually.

I called PB 5 times and they are sending me a new controller! Seriously? It's 3 hours old and I am already having problems. I sold my Traeger because of all the problems I had. Now I have this crap

Has anyone ever had a problem like this?

I tried I don't know how many ways; nothing worked. The app is not allowing me to enter my network and password information manually. I don't see a workaround to fix this issue. It did not connect through Bluetooth. It cannot connect to my wifi network; even though I used both 5 and 2.4 mghz. The controller has been ordered. But I am so pissed because the rig is hours old. I got it at 10 am. I've been trying to fix this problem since 1 pm EST.

I am so glad you find it funny. But when you are on disability due to major spinal cord issues and you have trouble going back and forth to your smoker, yeah wifi is a big fucking deal!

Ahhh. Well then I see what the problem with that might be. You have any geeky buddies? DDave here might be able to offer some pointers... I’ll drop him a note. He’s kinda a networking guru. And my apologies- some of us are just old sticks in the mud. If you’d have mentioned your situation, I’d not have giggled. I’da tapped DDave, which I shall do.

            Me too...

Unfortunately, most wifi issues I encounter I am able to do a google search and fix them.

Did you purchase it from Pit Boss or a local distributor? If it was a local purchase, I would roll it right back to the dealer and get a refund. If it was from Pit Boss I would be billing them $125.00 an hour for my labor. I am sure that rate is cheap for an IT Tech.

I did a google search from the looks of things, you are not alone in this adventure. Maybe a class action lawsuit?

My honest opinion, each layer of technology we add in life is another issue to over come when SHTF.

Good luck and be bless. I hope Pit Boss at least shipped the parts over night.

Are you using Erro Wifi? If I am connecting anything on a 2.4 band I need to go into the router setup and disable the 5.0 band temporarily while I setup network.

And of course there is always the one that I jack up all the time.....is the password correct or did you hit caps lock.....(many frustrations by me on this one) Then there is go get a beer, re-read the directions and try again.......sometimes it takes two or three beers until you get the correct steps in order.

                I got it from Lowes
PB is shipping the controller out. I did not get a tracking number yet
I called Optimum and created a dedicated 2.5mghz network just for the smoker

The big problem is that the app does not allow me to manually add the 2.5 mghz network. I believe if I was able to do this, it would solve the problem. But then again what the hell do I know!

I FIXED THE WIFI ISSUE. Here is the solution...
                  • Whatever Pit Boss account you have on your app, delete it. The reinstall the app
                  • Create a new account and password
                  • Follow the steps to set-up your new grill
                  • Be sure you have a wifi network dedicated for 2.5 mghz
                  • Enter your wifi network name and password
                  • Follow the app screen prompts

After I did the above, my smoker was connected and I was able to control it from my app

I hope this helps anyone who had the same problem that I had.
