I've never used one personally... but from what I understand they are LP based grills that have a drip pan over the flame to prevent flare ups... basically giving you a nice even heat source which allows for better heat distribution in the cooking chamber. The manufacturer that I have heard of is New Phoenix Grill... seem like a nice unit that is pretty versatile.

If the whole flare up issue is an issue for anyone, go check out grill grates. They also remove hot spots pretty well as they even;y displace heat. Plus, you get great grill marks

I use them on my BGE and the gasser. Great product and they are sized to whatever you cook on.

Well I'll say this I watched the site's video specifically the smoke section. And when he used the tongs to break the ribs...they sure looked dry to me. But in the video he cooked them at 350°. Also I don't like cooking on aluminum.

I have one of the original Phoenix Grills, from before the first time they went bankrupt and were made in the USA. It's been going strong for almost 10 years now but is needing replaced due to being thrown off the porch twice in hurricane winds!

We love it and I'm loath to get rid of it.

Interesting fact, Phoenix used to make Holland's grills for them at one time.
