  • Special Smoke for a lost friend

One of the guys who did the BBQ comp with me a couple years ago and a great friend was unfortunately murdered awhile back.

I got 75lbs of Boston Butt on the smoker, to serve a thank you dinner to the fire dept and local sheriffs who responded to his widows calls and held the bastard that shot him in his house til he shot himself.

I will have to freeze it, because I'm not serving it until June 2. My buddy PT49er will be helping out as well. I hope we can get back out to another comp someday in his honor.

RIP Dan you are sorely missed!

I was able to get 4 of them pulled last night but I was whooped so I foiled 3 others before putting them in the freezer

Put the last one in the fridge I will pull it tonight and break it up into single serve portions which I freeze to bring in for lunches.

Thanks guys its been a hard 6 weeks time moves on.

It's very hard to see what his wife and kids are going through.

He had 2 girls 7 and 5, so now I got 2 more to help look after and coach.

His oldest is playing softball, she struggled a lot, but for the last week or so she's hitting the ball again. It's great to see her getting better.

Somehow some way we gotta find someway to keep guns away from crazy people. I don't know the answers, I'm sure not giving up my guns.

Tough stuff, but this is a way to thanks to the first responders and deputies. They helped keep the nosey folks and media at bay for a week until some other tragedy hit and folks moved on.

Today went well. Dan's widow came, the closer it got the more excited she got at the opportunity to say thanks.

Here's some of the crew that came in:

Here's the spread, we kept it simple just q and chips.

                        ImageUploadedByTapatalk1370224794.669433.jpg

I was glad PTT49er got to come up and help out. He brought the chips and drinks, Dans wife got paper products and cookies.

We left them with enough left overs for another meal at each firehouse in town.

They were stoked to have the bottled water to keep on the truck.

I tell ya it's a honor to say thanks to these men! I think it helped the widows to give back, both insisted to help serve the food, we probably had 50 folks come through, the different truck crews came through in shifts and the deputies came in waves.

They were all very appreciative that we had taken the time to do it. I tell ya it's a shame folks don't take the time to say thanks to our public servants nearly enough.
