  • Ball tip steak review

The meat cutter at our grocery store has been bugging me to give these a try. Said they're great. So while picking up a case of pork loin I threw 2 steaks in the cart. He also has steaks that are marinaded and vac packed so that is what I got. 2 marinated ball tip steaks. The wife cooked them on the GMG, she didn't get any grill marks but were cooked to perfection temp. Served with some corn from the Indian reservation.

Didn't care for the marinade, wife's was salty. Tasted like a beef jerky seasoning. Disappointed in that aspect. But this steak was great! Tender and juicy. Plus it was cheap $4.29 a pound compared to $9 for ribeye. This to me is a great steak for the price. Will be buying more and may buy a whole ball tip to try to cook whole, I think it'll be equivalent to a tri tip, possibly better. Thanks for looking!

Nice. looks like you had a good meal.
They come from the bottom of the sirloin. Not to far from the Tri_Tip. They are good eating.
Around here they sell them as petite sirloin steaks.
They are good when sliced thin, marinated or not, and grilled fast.
You're right they have great flavor.

Petite sirloin is a good small one. Just don't over cook or they get kinda tough. If you insist on a marinade, go easy on the acid and salt. They are usually are cut pretty thin and don't need much encouragement.

Some days I think Bravo Zulu, other days it's more like Whiskey Tango Foxtrot...

These were already marinated. Thought I'd give it a try. Usually I'm just a bit of Lawry's or tatonka on my steak. Never have marinated a steak on my own. IMO steak doesn't need much and really dislike going to restaurants that dress steaks up.

It just sounds rude and painful to me

And yeah, commercial marinades are usually best avoided.

It was just a matter of thyme before someone made that connection...

I have never heard of that cut. At first I thought it was the top of Rocky Mt Oysters.
