  • Crispy Italian Chicken in the Dutch Oven

2 cups Cheese and Garlic Croutons
    1 egg
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves (about 1 pound)
1 cup Spaghetti Sauce of your choice, I use Hunts Traditional, heated
    1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Lightly oil or spray dutch oven.
Place croutons into a gallon size resealable plastic bag. Seal the bag and crush the croutons with a rolling pin.
Beat the egg in a shallow dish with a fork or whisk. Dip the chicken into the egg. Add the chicken to the bag. Seal bag and shake to coat.
Place chicken into prepared dutch oven.
Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Spoon sauce over chicken, sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese and bake for 10 minutes longer. Serves 4

I pounded my chicken some and threw my egg in the same bag instead of a bowl.

I also topped with a few extra crumbs after putting the chicken in the DO.

I baked it with 7 coals on the bottom and I believe 18 on top.

    Half way through

Done and getting ready to top with sauce and cheese.

Served with a little spaghetti and iceberg lettuce.

It was very crispy until I put the sauce on and that softened it up but it was tasty and I like using the croutons. Thanks for viewing!

It is easy!!! I was really intimidated about DOs when I first started thinking about using them but after a few cooks I was amazed at how easy it really is.
