Poor Man's Lobster

Sounds interesting, I may have to give this a try.

We do our own version of poor mans lobster as well. We usually do this with northern - clean and remove the skin and bones, chunk up in 2-3 inch pieces and drop them into a pot of boiling Sprite and or 7-Up. Cook until the fish is a solid white color and floating at the top - remove and serve with melted butter. Taste just like lobster!

I have a friend that does that with Sturgeon & Halibut & swears by it.... I have yet to try it, but thinking I might with some Tilapia, since I can't get my buddy to ever show up with the Halibut he promised, not matter how much beer & sausage I give him

Looks like haddock but for the life of me I cannot figure out why you would boil it first. We get all kinds of seafood here, including monkfish and hadock. Ya broil or steam it just like lobsta. Unless it's really thick, then you steam it a bit/more. Maybe that's the connection, ya par-boil instead of par-steaming. But only if it's really thick and ya don't wanna cut it.
I bet it was real good, de bear can cook!

However all the recipes I saw on the internet call for a very brief Boil & Simmer.
Actually my burner gets turned off when you put the fish in, and the coldness of the fish takes the water off Boil right away.

That would be Great, but this stuff would fall apart too easily, even with the skin on. This skin was like oil---I scraped it off with the side of a fork. Plus I like a lot of butter on, in, and around mine.

Looks like a great recipe. We love boiled fish. We boil northerns all the time with a little bit of bay leaves and spices in the water then it goes right to the plate and put some melted butter over it. Love that stuff.

Halibut is the best saltwater fish I have tasted, Mahi Mahi coming in second. It would not surprise me if you never saw it Scott... If you do, that is one heck of a friend!!!

Nice recipe Bear, I will have to give that a try, as I will Gilberts blakened fish as well.

They call Monkfish made in a similar manner Torsk at a local resto. I had it once and thought is was pretty good and lobsterlike...

Yes the Cantaloupe Juice surprised me how good it was, and it was a good way to get something out of a less than ripe, and not very juicy Cantaloupe!!

I use the cheapest fish I can find, as long as it has white flesh. The stuff I used on this batch was $3.99 a pound. Stripers work good too---My Son caught me some of them a few times.
