At home, since my turkey burner died, I now use my weed burner... lit coals in under a minute! When I'm traveling, I place a lit Sterno can under a chimney of coals and let it sit for a bit until I see a glow, set the chimney aside and remove the Sterno.

I use the cubes and have had great success with them right on the grate BUT I like to put the cubes on a half of a brick (2 cubes) and light them, then place a chimney full of lump over the the brick/cubes and in 5-10 minutes they're ready.

I used to go the chimney route but with kids and dogs running around, etc. I switched to a looft lighter. I works very well, quickly and you can feed as much air oxygen into the coals as you want. It just saves me a headache and a step or two as well.
Been using it now for 2 years and worth every penny to me.Pete
