went to the supermarket today and didn't know what to cook tonight.
walked around in circles and finely decided to try some boned out drummies. they were 5 bucks for 4.5 pounds so that was a go, then i went to the game section and saw some bush tomato and finger lime marinated roo roasts, small ones, so i pulled the trigger on them too.

chicken came out fantastic, jucy and tender, great smoke flavour and good colour.
skippy i smoked for about 40 mins in a pan and judging by the temp should be somewhere around medium rare.

ill update pics later but heres a few for a kick off

skippy the bush kangaroo was a tv show on here in the 70's, kinda like flipper the dolphin, but was a kangaroo

wass that the only mystery jimmy?
having a few bourbons and we talk a bit different down here anyways, but i used that technique where you separate the meat from the top knuckle of a chicken drumstick and turn it inside out down the bone, chop the bone off at the bottom knuckle and roll it back out the right way again.
any clearer bud? i hate being confusing

              seriously - they won't eat kangaroo ?
that's mad. Considering it's on a par with venison for zero cholesterol. And supposed to be at elast as tasty. Plus there is a massive kangaroo over population so it's even ethical :-)

              for the roo mate
Looks great. And nice job on the drummers too. Did you marinade them ?

As for australian-american translations - thinking of posting a few kevin wilson videos, so expect a small dictionary when I do
And that's just for 'rootin' in the back of the ute' (think I identified about a dozen uniquely aussie words in that one)

Yeah I thought skippy the bush kangaroo was a worldwide tv series. certainly had it in germany and holland when I was a kid and england. Germans dubbed it dutch just put subtitles.

It was hilarious. skippy would go: snicker snicker and brush his ears with a paw. and the bloke would say: 'what's that skippy ? little jimmy's fallen down a well/mineshaft/cliff (little jimmy was accident prone) two miles west by the split trunk tree that was struck by lightning last year ? You think I should take the ute with the extra strong winch cos jimmy's been eating all the sangers ?'

              Amazingly expressive language kangaroo

Skippy & the Drums look great, Dale!!!!

Was CA right?---Does Roo meat taste as good or better than Venison??
That would be my guess also, but let's hear it from one who knows.
My actual guess would be similar to Venison or Lamb, but we don't have a lot of them jumping around Pennsy, so I have no idea.

                What do you think, Dale?

the one thing i didnt do on my visit down under was try the kangaroo. i was way to busy drinking back then, you know a man should never interupt a good drunkin sailor binge with food.

just something else to add to the list for my next visit.

                  looks good from here

LMAO yea CA you got a handle on skippy... and i agree with you , kangaroo is in plague praportoins, but they have very small amounts of fat per portions. in some areas here and they do need to be culled, what better way than to do it selectively and purposely and not waste the meat or skin than kill a mountain of them and leave them in the sun to rot and be wasted.
I've eaten it several times but you need to cook it like you would venison, and treat the cuts the same, or you'll end up with something very inedible.
i actually thought this would be medium rare, its very
rare, but awsum taste wise, i might need to give it a minute in the microwave lo set the centre of it to eat it cold, but the bush plum and finger lime (native wild fruits) tenderised it to perfection

nothing like lamb, a lot like beef, very lean beef, its more like beef than venison, but less forgiving to cook from what I've heard than venison,
I've used it like 3 times ever, I've used the mince to make spagetti bolognaise, it was pretty decent, I've made a really good rorgan gosh (lamb curry) out of it and then a smoke, this was basically it cooked in its simplest form and other than under cooking it slightly in the centre was like the best cut of beef I've ever eaten
