  • Spray bottles and what's in them.

So I have decided I want to start spritzing from time to time. I have two questions. Where can I find safe bottles to use and what do I put in them?

I saw them at Sam's recently. Food grade & safe. I think what you put in 'em depends on what food you are spraying.

Most generic spray bottles are food safe. A neat thing is..they typically fit pop/soda bottles too! I wash out used soda bottles and repurpose them for spraying, then just return them after one use :{) Even if you have doubts about the bottle itself, use the spray head on the soda bottle and don't worry.

Dollar store. I usually spritz with 50% apple cider, and 50% water.

I don't spritz, but if I did, I would use (on Pork) 50% Apple Juice, 25% BBQ Sauce, and 25% Ken's Honey Teriyaki Marinade. That's my Go-to foiling mix for Pork.

              Here's what I have:
              http://www.bbqguys.com/item_item_2861886.html

It's Steven Raichlen's 12 oz stainless marinade sprayer.

Here are a few pork rib spritz recipes:
              ------------------------------------
Half apple juice and half apple cider vinegar
The flavor blends well with pork and adds a nice color to the bark.

Cranberry juice and a little olive oil
A little more tart than apple juice and helps build a nice deep color.

1 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/2 cup Worcestershire, 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/2 cup water
A deeper flavor and it works great with spare ribs.

3 cups apple juice, 2 cups white wine vinegar, 2 tbsp liquid imitation butter (Parkay) ala Myron Mixon

For beef I usually use a 50/50 mixture of water and worcestershire, then add in some beef stock.
              Smokem if you got em

I just use the small spray bottles I find in the travel section at Wal Mart. I use about 70% apple juice and 30% cherry schnaaps.

Another option is to use a squeeze bottle with a very small hole. This will accommodate using a thicker sauce such as bbq sauce or a baste with spices in it since you wont have a sprayer to clog. But you will most likely have to follow up with a baster/mop to spread out the sauce. You can typically get those at a dollar store or even wally world for pretty cheap. I use the same squeeze bottles for my oils when cooking.

Seems the Amazon customers don't care for this sprayer. Nasty reviews!

I use left over spray bottles from those "I can believe it's not butter" butter spray. Though most any new plastic spray bottle is inert, I still like to spray hot bleach water through them and rinse it well.

I like using flat Dr. Pepper or Rootbeer, and sometimes when I'm feeling really crazy, I add some apple cider vinegar to it !

I'm partial to ginger ale and pineapple juice for pork and some chicken.
Rich showed me the pop bottle thing when I was in Michigan. Works very well..

And a tip to help keep those pumpers pumping... run water thru them after use to remove "stickies" and then pump a couple squirts of veggie oil thru them. remove the tube or spray it empty from the oil.
